1993 Mazda RX-7

Sad, very sad. My tired FD has been in neglected hibernation for going on 5 years, coincident with the birth of my twin daughters. The hard work of returning it to the street was begun last month. Just about everything on the car was needing attention when I stopped driving it.

Milestone reached! The engine and transmission are out! My hands-on mechanic skills have weakened from lack of exercise. It took me far longer to pull the engine (when I was able to work on it) than it should have. I made a number of dumb mistakes - nothing damaging, just things that cost time and made everything more difficult than it needed to be. Separating the engine and transmission is an example. I had forgotten how to unclip the clutch and had to separate the engine/trans by unbolting the clutch. The good news is that the engine turned freely and had no feel of rust. With holidays and whatnot through New Year's, I'm not sure when I'll be able strip the engine down to the "block." Everything needs to come off, be inspected and cleaned. I've been reading about wastegate porting and mechanical boost controllers.
