Sometimes the backyard provides all that the imagination requires, whether that be the setting for your neighborhood World Series or just a fun-sized off-road park. In this case, it’s a mini crawler course for a stock 1/24-scale Axial SCX24 Deadbolt. Remember, folks, slow, steady and watch your spotter.

I got into 1/10 scale crawlers and trail trucks for a while thinking it was a cheap hobbie. Pretty sure my car would be done if it wasn't for that detour

I have a 1/10 scale buggy that I bought as cheaply as possible, drove it once, bent an axle, and haven't used it since. Crawlers and short-course trucks are extremely cool though, and I might convert my buggy to a truck someday and get it back on the road, so to speak. There's also some "hybrid" types that are like crawlers but they can go real fast like the racing trucks.
Basically, they're cheaper than real cars, but not by as much as you'd think. But probably a lot more convenient for most people.

Maybe we should scale the size to the cost and do a comparison. That way, we'd know what it costs in real car dollars...

i just got one of these little suckers for my son for Christmas (don't tell him I play with it while he's at school). so much fun for relatively cheap by hobby RC standards. i was BIG into 1/10th RC off road racing in my younger days and got burnt out on the cost which was hard for me to overcome as a broke teenager.
this guy is so much fun...works surprisingly well out of the box, and very capable although it has realistic limits that force you to be careful and deliberate. you can chuck it in a bag and take it anywhere, and so far very durable (considering how tiny it is...but i don't recommend jumping it down the stairs or hitting walls repeatedly at full speed). the design is surprising...full metal chassis, high clearance drive shafts, 4 link suspension, and a nice scale look. i tried the cheap $40 Amazon made in Chine rockcrawlers and always hated the cheap driveline and all-or-nothing steer and throttle. with this you can dial in any amount.
its really a nice "zen" thing to just turn away from the work on my computer and try climbing over some makeshift stuff up here in my office. currently scaling a pile of my wife's leg weights and free weights.
