there may have only been 2 Nelson participants.  But you said cars, not drivers.  And I know all of the cars you have entered have been under 11.99.  And that's more than 2.

The group listed has more than doubled the efforts of the two Nelsons combined.

Karl la follette holds the record for worst bribe iirc, and actually prompted a change to the rules.

Actually that shame falls on me but it may be Karl's fault. In 2010 I was disappointed to loose out on worst bribe, I gave the judges chocolate covered potato on a stick, and someone else, I think Karl, gave tranny porn. Not to be outdone, the following year I gave the judges a penis enlarging pump. That prompted the end of the worst attempt award. I didn't want to go down that path but after loosing to tranny porn it was clear I had to.

Wow I forgot how screwed up you are.....so when are you coming back to the big show?

Did you know?

19. That ever since Cliff Sebring and Erik Lawson broke the 12 second mark, 1 in 16 (16.31 to be more accurate) Challenge cars have run 11.99 seconds or better in the quarter?

Yeah but of those 1/16.31 cars 8.7625/10 have had the last name of Nelson laugh

Wojtkowiak, Ziegler, Jabaay, Cammick, Crisman, Butts, Sebring, Culkin, Coleman, Lawson, Malle, DeFayette and Stepp

vs

(2) Nelsons.

Ahhh NO

I venture to guess you and now calvin, going by year, have close to 50% of the sub 12 second numbers counting 2 rained out drags years since you showed up with the nova.  You got 12 names up there.  You started in what, 04?  That’s 11 challenges not counting 2 rain outs, plus 2 for calvin.  You’re at 13 to 13 not knowing if any of the others has run 11.99+ more than once.  I assume Pat has.

Even if you’re at 25% that’s still insanely impressive.  I hope to get my name on that list one day

Did you know....

20.  ...that in the 18 events the Challenge Winner won (5) Drag segments, (5) Auto-X segments and (9) Concour segments?  However, since the start of the Dynamic Era, the Challenge Winner won (3) Drag segments, (5) Auto-X segments and (6) Concour segments.  That's right...all of the Auto-X winning Challenge Winners have won since the Dynamic Era started.

Hmmm, how many of the auto crosses have been won by Al McCrispin?

As a nerd for stats and numbers I'm loving this thread.

Fun fact, the challenge is becoming more affordable every year because by increasing by $1 increments it' not keeping up with inflation. If instead of using the year as the budget, they had increased the original $1500 by 3% every year starting in 1999 the 2018 budget would be $2629.

THREAD TANGENT- just read one of JG's recent editorials how he's driving his new Vette like his old Mustang, and that there's some learning time....

And it made me think how do people "sight read" cars?  It would be an interesting side bar article to talk to the pros and how they do it.

Wrong, over time they have added more budget exempt items. My budget for my 2011 car was much less than my 2017 car because of the allowances.

Did you know....

23.   ....that (2) of the (18) Challenge winners did not have a podium finish in the Concour?  The (2) cars that did win would easily be considered in any conversation for greatest Challenge cars ever.  The $2006 Winner Steve DeFayette crushed the field with a Dynamic score that separated his RX-7 from the field by 3.5 points.  Steve ran 0.2 seconds behind the FTD Auto-X time and mowed down the clock at 10.926 seconds in the drags.  Post Challenge, Steve has raced (and wins with) the RX-7 in Georgia posting 9 second ETs. The $2013 Winner Pat Culkin also won the Dynamic score with his Shadow.  Pat ran 1.3 seconds behind the FTD time in the Auto-X and clocked in a 11.319 second pass in the quarter.  Pat's Shadow is one of the 'greats' in our world as it has successfully competed and completed Drag Week, been Land Speed Raced and won the $1008 Challenge within the Challenge.
