Sorry, I've never seen these advertised anywhere.

Two for $1050, both need batteries. I'm assuming the cost of batteries is what makes them available.

Hmmmm-looks like they used NiMh batteries around 3.3ah. I know of a certain hybrid battery pack used in a certain Toyota that uses 6.5ah and shows up in the junkyard all the time.

so....instead of moving at brisk walking speed, it sprints?

Get 4 or so of the Toyota batteries, build a lightweight chassis for cheap, weld the two segways together, leaving enough room to sit in it, VOILA! CHALLENGE CAR!

I am deeply disturbed by this thread.

Could these be run in the challenge?

Nah, just a longer brisk walk and cheaper than the $900 factory replacement.

No. Don't meet rule #5:

Only Production-based passenger cars are allowed in the regular competition. All Locosts, kit cars, Zambonis and the like are allowed only in the Special class.

Unless, of course, we are working with a rather liberal interpretation of rule #9:

Modifications may be made to the original unibody or body and body panels and frame for engine and suspension swaps and modifications, but only to the extent neccessary to perform the change. This can include removing portions of the stock unibody and frame and replacing them with corresponding sections from a donor production car.

So, if the modification is to REMOVE the original body, engine, drivetrain, suspension, complete interior, and complete exterior to INSTALL the complete interior and exterior from a Segway, then perhaps.

How come I never noticed the big battery bags before? What's-her-name on the Travel Channel scooted around some Caribbean island and all I saw were big wheels.

Are those strap-on auxilaries or something?

You must be thinking about Samantha Brown. Philly actually offers segway tours around all the landmarks. Some cops have started to ride them and mall security use them to float around some malls.

My father has two of them.

Those are saddle bags in the photo. The batteries are under the floor board.

And, when you have access to the master key, they move MUCH faster than brisk walking speed. A sprinter might beat you to 100 yards, but you'd pass him before he got too much farther.

Yes, you can feel, and look, like a big dork riding one, but they're actually a lot of fun.

You can get a custom keyfob that will make them go faster than stock. My buddy has one that will go about 20mph.

You'll need to log in to post.
