Already spoke with the guy. He's sending pics. Needs a half of the pan and other lower rot issues. Wierd one will be to find new headlight buckets. Also doesn't have any air cleaner. Tires are all shot of course and since the battery tray is gone, there's no battery either. Been repaint end at least once and sounds like it was a poor job. Noticeable bondo, according to him. Nice guy though. Sounds honest.

Rather than new headlight buckets just replace the fenders. I have a set of early fenders which should fit that and are nice and solid that I'll happily sell to a forum member for a fair price. If you get the car let me know, I head down to MD semi frequently and Im only about an hour or so from Baltimore.

Cool. How early are the fenders

To be honest I dont know what year they came off of but they'd be right for the 64, they are the early covered headlight style. If things work out with the car and you need them I can get photos to you. They'd need a repaint but they are good and solid at least.

Do you have the headlights and rear fenders.

No sorry, no headlights, I do have rear fenders but I don't recall if they are early or late. I have a set of fiberglass flared ones too but that's really not so appropriate. I picked up a bunch of fenders and stuff from a local club member who was moving and needed it all gone.

GAWD ! I sure wish that you lived closer ! ! !

I have some workable used pan section, headlights, front fenders, air cleaners, curved nerf bars, speedo, shifters, gas tank, small shinny things and big ol' greasy stuff ALL over the place. Even have a folding sun roof assembly along with four inched of surrounding VW roof for ease of installation.

HATE to ship and not very reliable at it either, but I'm very generous with folks who drop by . . .

Luck with the car, you'll love it. Might scoop up the handful of parts for a 12 conversion. Fot the most part you can just keep the 6 volt generator in place, spins faster and might wear a bit sooner, but I've done it without a hitch and it never went bad. Replacements are cheap enough if it ever fails, so why not?

Sorry to sidetrack but how good is the top material on that folding ragtop? I have an evil plan of my own for a folding ragtop but not in a VW application...but I can adapt ;)

My wife goes down to MD each year to visit relatives and go to the Timonium Fair, a long wait but maybe . . . ?

Why don't you make a list of what you'll be needing once you look over the car and email it off to me. I might be able to put together a package for you as long as you don't mind the wait for me to get it to the PO, OK?

Can you mount early 60s fenders on a later standard beetle?

TeamEvil

As easy as can be, the holes line up perfectly. You'll have to buy or make some bumper brackets for whatever bumper you decide on, but the conversion brackets and bumpers are readily available.

This is a fairly common modification to later cars.

Too bad deck lids aren't so easy

TeamEvil
TeamEvil Dork

The rear deck lids are pretty much interchangeable as well, but you have to swap or alter the rear apron at the same time in order for them to latch "as stock."

If you want to fab up your own latch or just use a hood pin, then it's no big deal. Change out the seal and swap away !

One word of caution though, while you can run a cabrio deck lid on a sedan to good effect, you can't do the reverse. The lack of adequate cooling louvers/vents in the sedan deck lid will fry the engine in a cabrio.

It's mainly a matter of the aprons on the rear and the front, right?

Stored in the garage like, in your garage?

I live nearby. Wanted opinions on price and no title

JThw8

Depends on the process to get a new title in MD. I've done it a few times in NJ, its not fun but doable. That one is rough, I've looked at it (photos, not in person) and Im just not sure I could justify the price even with a title, front end looks bent and I'd guess with that much surface rust it has structural issues as well. Could be worth a check, might be a diamond in the rough.

He said it was dropped off at a shop in Laurel and they informed the owner it had dropped a valve. The guy never had it repaired or picked up. The shop never bothered to have a mechanics lien. This guy bought it 4 years ago and intended to restore it but never got around to it. He said it needs floors and the spare tire pan. Considering what else i can find for the money its steep but it really hard to find pre 68s without spending a lot or traveling a long way. A lot more big bumpers out there.
