Hey folks. So I think the time has come to list my 944 for sale (or trade). I am asking just slightly over the $2013 mark at a price of $2500. I felt this was still too close to list in the open classifieds. I am slightly flexible on the price, but I am losing quite a bit after what I paid and put into it with parts and work when I picked it up. I am also open to trades for a few things (a few examples at the end). I had it on the table for a trade, but due to some unfortunate unforeseen circumstances, it did not go through and is back up for sale/trade (unless he changes his mind ). Also very open to cash since my other half lost their job a few weeks back.

I will post more photos tonight once I can figure out why Flickr refuses to upload any of my photos.

Anyway, let me get on with it....

The car is 1983 Porsche 944. This is the naturally aspirated version (sadly, not Turbo) in Diamond Silver with the optional black leather Sports seats, removable targa roof, 5-speed manual transmission, and black "cookie cutter" rims. The car has 110k miles on it and has been well kept.

Exterior- The car is Porsche's "Diamond Silver", which looks great on this car from all angles and looks great with the black leather interior. Not the typical "Guards Red" color that everyone seems to have. This is the original color of the car, but it does appear that it was re-sprayed at some point in its life. The paint job it received is good for a daily driver car and looks great when cleaned up and waxed. It has a few small scratches here and there from parking lots, etc but nothing major. There is no rust on the body of the car. The only flaws is that it could use a new set of "stone guards". The existing ones are old and cracking away. I will include a new set of black ones. Also, there is a small dent on the left hand side of the car's nose about the size of a tennis ball. I have been told it could be pulled easily. All glass is intact and most of it is original with the factory stickers from 1983. The car rides on "cookie cutter" wheels, original to the car. They are in decent shape but they could be refinished or swapped out for a better set. They go fairly cheap on craigslist, ebay, porsche forums, etc. as we all know. The tires are in great shape with a lot of tread.

Interior - The car came with the optional leather sports interior. The seats are better than the standard 944 seats, and feature higher bolstering with perforated black leather. The leather on the front and rear seats is in great condition and not torn up like a lot of 944's you see for sale. The carpeting is in good shape, and the trunk still has both it's carpeting and retractable vinyl cargo cover (still works). I have a brand new OEM shift knob and leather boot that I will include with the car as well. Everything in the car works - AC is still cold, heat is extremely hot, defrost, windows, mirrors, etc are all working. There is a brand new stereo system in the car with a custom mounted amp and small subwoofer under the trunk floor. It was a professionally installed system and looks stock, and sounds great. The sunroof can either be totally removed like a targa top, or raised a few inches in the back for air flow. It is a totally manual and easy system, not the electric roof that later 944's had which often break or don't function at all. The only issue in the interior is the trim panel on the right rear pillar is peeling away. Used ones can be had for under $100 online, I just have not had the time. If I find one before the sale, I will include it. All of the gauges still function, odometer works, etc. I also installed a new sunroof (on body) seal, and I will include a brand new hatch seal as well.

Mechanical - The car is in great running order. It is currently registered and insured and we drive it several times a week. We recently ran it upstate over a weekend it was flawless. The car fires up right away, idles perfectly, and runs exactly as it should. When I purchased the vehicle, it did not come with any paperwork or service history, as it came from a trade-in. That being said, I would have the timing belt done sooner than later and would do it if I were to keep it. Since I am already selling this at a loss, I will not have it done prior to sale. You are free to have a mechanic look over every inch of the car, but please remember this is a 30 year old used car. Better yet, if you have the skills, tools, and space, do the belt job yourself and still be way ahead if you decide to sell it.

Other Information - The car came with a lot of cool original pieces like it's original tool kit in the original leather bag, various sets of keys, original owners manual, original sales brochure from 1983, and a shop manual to help with repairs if you're mechanically-inclined. I would like to see the car go to someone that is familiar with these cars (so, um, everyone here basically) and can continue to keep it in good shape and improve upon it. It's been a really fun car for us and a blast up on the mountain roads.

I would be willing to hear of trades for the right car, and would consider: BMW E30 (especially convertible), 1988-1993 Saab 900 and 900 convertible, 1990-1991 Prelude, Supra, Z31 300ZX, and other 80's-90's Japanese sports cars, and any other interesting trades you may have.

The car will make a great weekend ride or track car if you want to. It's presentable enough to be a daily driver, but should the urge bite, I am sure it could be made competitive.

Myself and the car are both in Brooklyn, but I do get out to NJ to see the family and up to New England as well. It is totally inspected, registered, and insured so you are free to come see it and drive it.

I will do my best to get more photos up tonight. PM me if you have questions or need specific details.

Man, that's gotta be one of the nicer non-turbo 944's I've seen for sale in a long time. Seems like a deal to me.

Hey folks. Managed to get flickr working so here are a whole bunch of pictures of the 944. You can see a picture of the aforementioned dent to the nose below.

No, I'm sorry, Enzo the Boxer is not included with the sale. He's only shown to let you know how practical a 944 can be.

Oh and lastly, a few more photos. These depict the warped C-pillar trim that I mentioned, the tear in the headliner material near the sunroof. I presume that both were caused by water from clogged drains at some point since when I got it, the drains were horrible. Besides this and a few cracks in the dash, the interior is in really nice shape and not a bad place to spend time behind the wheel.

The other 2 pictures are of the original tool kit that the car still has, and the option sticker in the trunk if you feel like decoding.

How's the back seat for kids? If they are suitable for a couple of kids aged 7, and 11, I may be interested in a trade for my 79 Cressida.

We just bought one of these too..for my wife. I sat in the back seat and it was terrible for a full size adult but for a kid I bet it would be fine. The seats are sorta like car seats as is.

We plan to put a baby seat is ours and my wife with DD it. Once I replace the trans that is.

The 83 motor is a great piece. Slightly lower compression and a little less HP but forged rods and crank. A great starting point for a track car motor. The trick we use to do was put a decked 89 head with the 89 cams it. thus upping the compression and getting the benefits of the slightly better cam.

Any takers? I'd really much rather trade the car if someone has a trade available.

I offered a trade. Come up with the car on a trailer, and return home with a nice Cressida.

Hmm sorry. As interesting as it sounds, probably not practical enough for my needs around Brooklyn as a second car. Though it would be entertaining. Thank you though!
