Not mine - Co-workers car. Info and pictures pending. Located near Ann Arbor, MI.
White. Over 250k miles. Lost compression in #4 cylinder. Some rust around the body. Nothing major from what I've seen. He's had one head redone a couple of years ago.
Just a heads up. Once I get price (any suggestions), info, and pictures, I'll post more up.
impatiently awaiting details. driving through there next saturday.
Hopefully i'll know more next Monday. If it's over $2k I'll pull down the thread. Otherwise, details to come.

I am too close to this....awaiting price...
OK, I have info. He is not exactly sure what to ask for price, so I would like an honest opinion from y'all about what you think it can go for (no $1 bids please )
Here is the info:
2003 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon
262000 miles
I am the second owner. I purchased it in July 2003 with 5120 miles on it.
To give you an idea of the kind of driver I am:
Original front brake pads lasted 78,000 miles.
Original rear brake pads lasted 92,700 miles.
Original clutch replaced at 175,000 miles, when the engine was pulled for replacement of exhaust valves.
Mobil 1 Synthetic in the engine, Royal Purple in transmission and differential. Dot 4 brake fluid flushed/replaced with every brake service and in-between if more than a year had passed.
Recent service:
DATE ODOMETER SERVICE
06/23/2009 163161 replace A/C condenser and dryer
10/16/2009 172069 Replaced (4) struts, four wheel alignment.
12/10/2009 175164 Loss of compression due to burned exhaust valve:
Replace (8) exhaust valves;
clutch-kit; timing belt; front & rear main seals; water pump.
02/03/2010 179790 Replace left & right front axle/cv-joints.
03/07/2012 240350 Replace front Pads(Akebono), Rotors(Cryo-Stop 120), flush/replace brake fluid(Dot4) fr+rr.
Current condition:
Engine: recently suffered loss of compression in cyl #4. Still starts and can be driven.
Prior to this, runs well, but consumes/leaks a little oil.
Suspension, steering, brakes, bearings, all very good.
Body: dent in hatchback door, minor rust in rear wheel wells.
Wheels: 16" Alloy wheels OEM.
I'll try and post up some pictures this afternoon.
Honestly, I would say something along the lines of $800. It needs a rebuild/new motor. Rust, and dent. I think that with the new motor you are looking at a minimum of $1K and I don't think that in running shape this can be worth more than like $3K with the miles. I am not trying to belittle the car but it is not looking promising to me.
That year had a recall on the front control arms for rust. Undercarriage rust will dictate the price a bit. Provided no real rust you'll be quite lucky to get $1000 out of it. With a healthy engine its a $4k car at that mileage and age typical rust.
Auto or manual?
Too bad I'm full up, a manual trans WRX wagon is on the "eventually" list.

manual
See "clutch kit" in description above :)
I'll relay prices to him. He's not going to be happy. Thanks!

Just under 10 years - 257,000 miles of service. He should be happy with that.
yeah i was thinking about 800 with the miles, basically needing a motor or rebuilt, and the rust word
Yeah, but Michigan rust is nowhere near as bad as NE Ohio rust. That said the GDs seem to do okay except for the subframe and front control arms, which are fairly inexpensive and simple to change.
And I've got a line on an STI shortblock.
Let's see how this unfolds. I've got some Mazda money saved up, a WRX would make a sweet tow rig.
Waiting to see some pics anxiously...

Phil, I came out to look at the Miata, we talked vehdyn stuff and I had the white Forester. I have an interest in the ailing WRX engine and engine compartment wiring harness, so if anyone is interested in the car but not those bits I would be happy to split it. I can provide short term storage and work space with a 2 post lift in Ypsi. Cheers.
bmepsi aht gee male
He's just going to post it on CL for now, well over the $2K mark. I tried :(
good luck with that... we're all cheap here
Last one I saw with a bad engine was 2300, sub 100k miles and perfect condition.
There's one on Sandusky CL for $2900.
And here I had visions of fixing it, flipping it, and buying a Coupe Quattro and an S6 Avant to tow it with...
In reply to CGLockRacer:
I am sorry, but he will NEVER get over 2k (really 1k) for this car with a blown engine, rust and over 260K miles.
If it was running it'd be $6-8k easily. "Rust" is nebulous, and even here where they lay down salt in equal proportion to snowfall (no, really) GDs seem to be rust resistant aside from the control arm/subframe issue, and the control arms are a free recall repair and the subframe is pretty cheap.
Thus my desire to buy, fix, and flip Heck, if I had some more working capital, I'd ruin out to Sandusky and pick up the one that needs an engine and do it to that one.

You sure about that? I've seen a lot of WRX wagons with lower miles and not much rust so speak of for under $5000. At any given point there's one in the area in that price range. And that's asking price, who knows what the sale price ends up being.
