So, I presume a Zetec bolts up to this trans?

I think the stock one? I believe they all share the same basic bolt pattern, give or take a bolt or 2?

Clutch, pressure plate, input shaft, starter location, and/or oil pan may take a bit of parts-bin engineering though.

The manual trans in these cars really isn't that strong. Depending on what you want to do, a T-5 swap may be a smart path forward. If you want to keep it basically stock underhood I don't think I'd worry.

In theory the Type 9 is good up to 175 HP. I don't know what it is good for in torque.

Wow, didn't realize the trans was that weak. Looks like a T5 swap would be required with a Zetec.

They recommend updating the trans in the Mekur if you are doing any power boosting or any hooning.

How much power can the T5 handle?

It depends on the internals. The standard 4 cylinder T5 can handle perhaps 240 lbs torque, a V8 280-300, the Cobra T5 is 330 or so. A stock T5 is stronger then the T9 and a V8 version should hold up to any normal Turbo 2.3L unless you take it drag racing. Please note the V8 T5 is not a direct swap, you do need to do a few mods to fit it but their simple and well documented on the net.

Driveline components are rated by torque, not HP

T9's are easy to get rid of for all us Triumph folks that want a 5 speed!

In reply to Spitsix:

Or all the Capri driveline owners that have shown up around here lately... But with a specific bellhousing from the Mustang II, the T-5 is also an option there, and one I'd rather have myself.

I have a couple of questions.

No mention of a title?

Is it a factory turbo and trans?

Did the freeze plug blow out before or after the head cracked?

Why the wheel mismatch?

How bad is the tin worm infestation?

my first car was an 85 back in 93. apparently they are prone to blowing head gaskets as that is what sent mine to the scrapper (before I did any real wrenching on cars).
