my guess is that it was stolen and ditched, recovered with no drivetrain, and a buddy had a d16 sitting around that promptly made it drivable again.
Not the first time i've seen this.
There was actually a real GSR that used to run around here with a D16Y7.
With an ebay turbo kit.

No I'm serious. I went to the Bahamas once and my dad's friend had a 4 door integra, and it had a D series.

I wouldn't be surprised if any of the later ones came with d-series overseas.
You could get the EP3 with a D-series overseas as well.
Maybe he means b16. Doesn't say anything about the transmission, which would also have to be changed going from B to D series.
