They're in the same plane, it's an optical illusion
in other news, one fender is done
and the wood will tuck right into the channel

other fender done done. First fender needs flap wheel taken to the welds. On to finishing the dovetail and ramp storage
in the interest of not trapping water and rusting stuff out, I'm overlapping as little material as possible, so the fenders go straight down to the top of the deck frame instead of on the face. My plan is to etch prime and then thin and spray black gloss rustoleum with hardener added, then spray bedliner the fenders top and bottom, then shoot fluid film inside any tubes
Patrick, what is the spacing on your floor beams and their spec's? Next, what is the spacing front to rear from the tongue to the fenders?
In reply to 759NRNG :
Approximately 12" oc. Little less than 1/8" 2x2. Front of deck to fenders is 9'. 12' to center of axles. 20' overall. Tongue about 52" forward of the deck
put in a long day today, ready for paint then wiring. Weather not looking too solid but if I get a dry day I'll be able to shoot it. Need to move it away from the garage for overspray reasons, then I can put stands under the axles and remove the wheels and get a jack under the tongue

You gonna be hauling a bulldozer on that thing? Cross members every foot is unusual in manufactured trailers in my experience.

Overkill is a good thing. I'll be using it for my dad's compact tractor but that's fine on a 7k car trailer.
Yeah my old (now stampie's) trailer had steel ramps with the boxes on the side. Between the heavy ramps and needing 4+ feet on the side to get them out I didn't want to slide them in the side of this one. Current trailer has ramps that slide out the back but they're not movable, which is bad for the tractor because it's narrower than a car. So I combined them. Ramps with a hook end so they can go anywhere, but they still slide out the back for when i'm in tight spaces like a city driveway with house on either side or next to other vehicles. Also 6500# aluminum ramps are absolutely awesome, screw steel ramps.
shopping winches right now, picked up one of those receiver mounts for it so I can slide it into the receiver I put on the trailer or I'm going to build or buy a front receiver for my truck so it can be for both
That ramp setup is awesome. My trailer has the heavy steel ramps that slide out to the side, just as you described. It's a royal PITA. Your setup will be so much better.
Ramps out the back is nice!
I like my Brian James trailer that I have but the "next" trailer (if there ever is one), I want the ramps under the bed instead of on top, as I have them now. So nice to just pull them rearwards.

I love those Brian James trailers, light and built in sizes to match the car sizes.
Patrick well done.....what are your springs rated for? Where you at Adam's wedding? Why didn't you keep the original brake actuator from the boat trailer?
6k axles with matching springs.
Adam's wedding was tiny, we're invited to the 1 year anniversary party next 4/20
i want electric brakes, personal preference. I'll sell the new surge coupler and backing plates to someone
Ya know if I would look more closely at your pics I wouldn't be thread bombing like what'shisknuckles(senior moment) with the jaguars. Electric stoppers all the way. May we see a vehicle on the trailer cinched down the way you normally do.....thanks.

Soon. Lumber is really wet so it's just laid out to dry and shrink a bit. The 2x6's are measuring 5 5/8" and they typically measure closer to 5 3/8-7-16" when dry dry. Between the fenders is a multiple of 5 1/2" so if they all get there I can drop them all without cutting around the fenders
just got home from a long day of work, no trailer stuff today. I need to do some vehicle jockeying for my uncle and get the Wartburg to the BMV for inspection so I can title and plate it
The Wburg is fixin' to be the inaugural vehicle on the bestest trailer in the universe......I want the T-shirt
This looks great. I have a boat trailer that I want to do a 3000 lbs version of this. Use the frame, relocate axle forward, maybe replace the straight axle with stubs so I can use air ride to lower for easier loading. Thanks for the inspiration!
First test successful.
since the last update my electric brakes and spare tire carrier came and both have been installed. Brakes work very nicely. Ramps worked perfectly loading the tractor. In a couple weeks it's going to do a couple thousand miles, half with an F150 on it
