I realized that I did not want "an" AMX, I only want my Dad's, so I needed something to play with for the next 45 years. My criteria were simple: V8, RWD, manual trans, and not handle like a truck. Looking at my AMX budget, I realized that I could actually afford something, well, nice. Like a Corvette. I like Corvettes, I really like C5's, especially Z06's (I think some magazine is doing a series on one). So I started shopping them! I looked at quite a few, including a cosmetically rough track missile, a mechanically rough collection-sitter, and then this:
I fell in love and spent my entire budget on it. It's a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in Electron Blue with 48K miles. Two owners who put miles on it regularly and maintained it religiously. It's flawless inside and out. It smells new inside, and not fake chemical "new car smell" but like legit still smells like it is a new car. It has all the options, full leather, heads up display, memory settings, auto-dimming mirror, and some great add-ons like a leather-wrapped cargo divider.
The test drive had me smitten, so I wrote the biggest check of my life, and drove it home!
So, what am I going to do with it? Well, the 986 S is still my autocross/track missile, so this will not be some crazy build for that. I will likely drag race it a bit just because that's fun and about all there is to do right now, and enjoy driving it in the twisty roads. I already installed a shorty antenna and ordered an MGW shifter because I love them and the stock shift knob is a square leftover from the C4. Eventually though, I want to get into the 11's all motor and then do one of the drag week/race week/one lap events with it.
As someone who went out looking for a C5 cream puff and ended up with a C5 track beast, sometimes I wonder if I should have went the other way.
Now I don't have to! Gorgeous electron blue example. Following intently.
Best of luck to not ruin it. My buddy has a 99 regular corvette that had a bad 6th gear. So he figured that he might as well do the clutch while he was replacing the transmission. Now it's in the final stages of a supercharger install. Whoops.

As long as you don't beat on it too mercilessly, with your mileage the clutch/torque tube/trans should be just fine for a long time.
If that's not your style though, let me know if you need a squared set of 18x10.5 forgestars with 315s, haha.
