Yeah, I think that rack is just much better designed.  I really wanted to go for a 1up rack, but this car and my previous one only have a 1 1/8 hitch available so are limited to a single instead of a double.

What is your radio setup?

It's a Kenwood DMX 1037s

  • 10.1" High Definition Monitor with Capacitive Touch Panel
  • Floating Panel Mechanism with 3-way Position Adjustment

If you want to expand your options with the hitch, I found it to be fairly straight forward to cut off the 1 1/8 receiver and replace it with a 2 inch to allow the use of that rack.

And there's this too:

it fits under the cargo shelf in the hatch area.

Thanks.  I was browsing Crutchfield the other day and basically all aftermarket radios that support android auto/carplay are out of stock.  Perhaps related to the chip shortage?

I really wanted the hitch to just work and not turn it into another project.  I can unload the bike before I open the hatch, or reach in through the rear seat.  Its an annoying design, but not a big deal.  But I may need to mod it for the window clearance.  For now I guess I can loosen the stem and clock the bars on my bike when I'm carrying 2 (not that often).

Wow, its been a year since I updated this.

I changed the motor mounts.  Not sure if I mentioned that before.  Even with brand new OE mounts, the engine flop is kind of silly.  To the point where I feel like a moron every time I try the 1-2 shift when cold.  Also, when loading up the engine to "launch"  with even mild acceleration, the engine will flop like there is no motor mounts at all.  The only car I have ever experienced this on was a NA miata where both motor mounts where completely broken.

So I put poly bushings in the old torque axis mount and reinstalled that.  The driving is much better, but the vibration is terrible.

So not really sure what a good solution is.  Kicking around the idea of 3d printing a small shim to go inside the rubber void in the stock rubber mount there to help control the motion of the stock mount a little bit.

I'm not exactly sure what is going on... this is the same engine mount arrangement as a veloster, including the N, and surely that doesn't have any of these issues.

Other than that I have just changed the oil.  The appliance does appliance things fairly well, except the gas mileage is not great.
