I'd check for debt tied to the car, criminal history...seems way too good to be true.

My god man! How much meat do you eat!

P.S. how's your plumbing? (your house, not your butt)

Well I bought it. $40, that's all I had on me.

VIN check shows it's not stolen and has no liens on it.

The seller was "interesting".

I will tow it home after work. It's in surprisingly good shape.

I was noodling on Wiki... The Saab uses the GM2900 platform. You could get the Getrag F23 in that platform. LS4 from the Grand Prix GXP bolts to that transmission. Grab the Saab 9-7x plastic engine covers from the V8 version and have a very Saab-y front wheel drive V8 manual transmission car!

With the most vicious torque steer ever.

Hmmm...looks like new keys and programming is $600.

So $650 for a running, driving car?

Poor you?

If that's all that's wrong, you can triple your money in a few days.

I have a feeling it will need more than just the key. The story the dude who sold it to me gave was that they filled it with gas at a gas-station and it wouldn't re-start.

I'll sort out the title before I drop that kind of $$, but it will probably be worth it.

Mine did that- evap system. Unhook evap from intake, crank at WOT until it starts.

I bought a pair of front seats from a similar car and got them for $140. That's $100 more than you paid and you also got the rest of the car.

If you end up parting it out, I'd buy the heated seat switches from you.

In reply to Jerry From LA:

Nah, the turbo motors are worse with their instant torque in the middle of the RPM range. The V8 tends to have a wider and less peaky torque curve.

It will be more nose heavy though, so I'm not thinking that would make for a great handling rig.

How is it that we've gone almost five hours without a build thread? Buying a $50 Saab comes with responsibilities, man.

Moderators- Can we get this moved to the build-thread section?

I got it dragged home with the help of my neighbor and his trailer. He has two of these Saabs and was drooling over the thought of grabbing parts from it. I told him he can have first crack at it if I can't get it registered or running.

These cars use a transmission lock insted of a steering lock, so the car is locked in reverse. The transmission made an unfortunate playing card on a bicycle wheel sound when rolling it on and off the trailer even with the clutch depressed...not encouraging.

After I got it home I went through the interior. Among the treasures: several gem stones, three otter pops, a collection of plastic frogs, a no-name cheap 24mm wrench, a gross pair of shoes, and several hilarious high school-esque love notes. I also found an insurance card with a name on it. Through the wonders of net-stalking I found the person on facebook. From the notes and their facebook page they appear to be a early 20-year old girl with drug and money issues. I'm debating whether I should have the sheriff come out and start the junk-vehicle paperwork (which involves sending a certified letter to the last registered owner), or just contact this person with a "burner" facebook account and offer them a few Benjamins if they can provide the title and keys.

Thoughts from the hive mind?
