Spent about the first half of the day installing header bolts, on the right side, and then I put the rest of the pipe organ back together!

I've been terrified, for the last year, that it won't sound good.

Guess I'll know, one way or another, in about a week.

Oh yeah, and the current state of the fuel system.

And while we're at it, spring oiler porn.

I will be shocked, shocked I tell you if this thing does not sound good.

Sunday turned out to be mostly about catching mistakes and making revisions but there was a little forward progress, too.

I ended up using the factory straps to secure the tank, along with some all-thread. Added stainless steel springs to the ID of some cooling lines to ensure they don't collapse.

Pushed first start out by yet another week.

Make that at least another week.

And I burned 90% of Saturday on turning a $16 set of window cranks into one of the ones nobody would/could ship me.

Yeah, one. Because I don't have a drill press. or even space for it. Which means that I clamp stuff to a dining room table and hand drill it, while trying not to destroy the furniture.

The base has a curved section, so I filled the V groove gap with an o-ring.

So right now, this is the interior upgrade package I've screwed scratched and scrounged together.

And I printed spacers for the appropriately sized hardware for the handles, because weight is a thing, and aesthetics.

Sunday, I spent most of the day on modifying / making parts for throttle linkages and cabling. That's a thankless slog. It's not going to be 100% for the fírst start, but close.

First, if anyone has recommendations for a battery, . . .

Please let me know.

The one that's been in there for a decade is toast.

Ideally, something small! The current one is 5" x 7 1/2" x 7" tall. It needs to be that size or smaller.

Top mount posts.

And since I like burying the lead, all of a sudden, it's a car. The electrical system went hot, today, with a successful partial systems check.

Plumbing is 100%. Fuel, lubrication, cooling, brakes, clutch. Even the toilets work.

First start tentatively (and highly optimistically) scheduled for next weekend.

Lawn mower battery? Or miata battery?

I like my oriellys agm batteries ive been buying. One in miata size should fit, but thats an educated guess with no measurement or coffee yet.

Thanks for your help!

I ended up finding the receipt for the one from a decade ago and re-purchasing the same item.

It's almost entirely back to being in one piece.

Also, we turned the engine on the starter. Just a rotation or two, because filling the fluids and first start are scheduled for Saturday.

I stopped.

Theoretically, all that's needed is to fill fluids, throw some switches, and hit the starter button.

I've had one day off from working or working on the car since my dog died four months ago. I really started resenting having to work on it. The back pain isn't tolerable and I need to decompress.

Too many niggles still hanging and I didn't get to to a bolt check.

In reply to Slow_M :

It's all good.  If you need a break, take a break.  It's easy to feel like things HAVE TO happen, but it's supposed to be fun.

On the grief side, I'm there with you.  I was designing a commemorative Christmas ornament online the other day for me and my girls, and completely dissolved into tears over my beautiful old friend.  It's just not easy.

We'll be here when you're ready.

We are here to share your grief now and then share your joy in the future whenever that may be.  Thank you for including us on your journey.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your furry family member.

Helping the perfect to be the enemy of the good since 1963.

I'll be happy after I swap the hardware for stainless steel flat head socket cap screws.

Really berkeleying hated those billet knobs.

This coordinates with the ebony shift knob I'm planning to use.
