i can rebuild engines but posting photos on a message board is beyond my capabilities.and im planning on an all bargain fiber 302.reread that last bit again

Carbon fiber engine block?
See valve covers made of Bargain Fiber.

Simple as I can make it, my man. Never give up. Never surrender
so the whole imgur thing isnt even necessary>?whaddya know
so above is the first iteration of bargain fiber.had the fools at the local hangouts convinced it was a real fiber hood and worth 7 times more than the truck was.since then my technique has progressed...the 4V valve covers have fooled many of the years
and yeah im gonna do the whole engine in various shades of BF.was gonna do it in BRG but quickly axed that idea.plus ive done aboot 5o 302s in Ford blue or black so its time for something different.this is block/heads in primer and everything else natural aluminum.the intake will be a challenge
and now that i has this working (thanks mr asa) heres the damn MGB .slow as hell but its the most fun ive had behind the wheel in years...a 302 will fix what ails it
ditched the rubber bumper, the whole top assembly(have since picked up a sweet $100 hardtop for winter use),all to get the weight down.yeah.

When are you going to use the earlier suspension pieces to lower the ride height down to where the geometry will work?
In reply to frenchyd :
so its like this.... ima throw a 5.0 in this thing and beat the hell out of it.fine tuning the suspension will not be a thing in this case.itll never see a track, itll be used to go to a couple of buddy's places and a backroad boogie now and then so if it moves ill be hella happy
Awesome. Glad you got it to work!
Imgur can work as well, you just put the URL in that first tab when you click the image button.
That's really too bad. A MG is such a nice predictable car. It's understandable how they created the whole American sports car movement.
When MG was forced to raise the car to meet the new federal regulations all that wonderful feeling went away.
That V8 shouldn't be massively heavier than the lump that it replaced. I understand and approve of the engine swap. I'd be inclined to use headers and an aluminum intake manifold to bring the weight closer to original.
got a nice Weiand aluminum intake on it now, plus a set of flotek heads waiting if it needs more than maybe 240 hp so theres another 44 lbs or so off.ive never driven an old one,im more used to mustangs t birds and trucks so this thing is a featherweight in comparison.im just looking for the Cobra experience, take a bunch of HP and jam it into a little British turd and apply pressure to the right pedal and try and keep my license
and Mr Asa yeah the imgur thing was screwy but your tutorial brought it down to my level.kudos to you

A driven car is always better than a garage queen.
We just put an LT1 and T56 into an MGB. No small undertaking as it required custom fender well headers and a lot of custom parts. I believe the 302 swap is easier but still work. This link might be useful to get started.

I can tell you that it is definitely the Cobra experience, so upgrading the brakes, suspension and other parts to make it safe are definitely recommended. MGB's have their frame rails on the unit body stop before they get to the back leaf spring mounts so just some sheet metal holding the back and front together. We made frame rail extensions to tie the front frame rails to the front of the leaf spring mount and some cross bracing to tie it all together.
Which LT1?
My MGB was pretty awful when I started. It may have been predictable for 1971, but it was no match for a modern chassis with stuff like stamped steel control arms and tube shocks.

No better quote embodies the essence of this lovely forum better than your poetry above. Succinct, funny, brutally accurate and honest. 10/10- would laugh again.

LT1 from a 94 Z28 with the matching 6 speed. Keith, we followed much of what you did but kept the MGB suspension but replaced the ancient lever shocks with a coil over kit from Moss motors. Built headers exiting out the wheel wells. Agree that what was considered excellent handling 40+ years ago has been eclipsed by almost everything today!
