I replaced the engine mount today with the Powerflex poly bushing. It was easy to assemble after pressing out the old bushing.
I was really impressed with how bad the old engine mount was. It was bolted to the frame with the wrong fasteners, missing a bolt on the engine, and completely worn out. I was fortunate to have all the correct parts on hand to reinstall it correctly.
Powering out of corners it felt wrong, but I am truly embarrassed that I drove on it as long as I did. Of course it feels a lot better now. I'll report back in a couple weeks how it compares to the standard mount.
Here's my old Engine Mount Replacement video, done on another car. Note that in the video I drain the coolant and disconnect a hose. Access to the engine mount is a lot better that way, but it is not required.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the symptoms of a bad motor mount?
It seems like there's mixed info out there and I don't want to throw money at problems without some confidence it will help.
I have vibrations around 3k rpm and sometimes the shifter will move slightly in 2nd but only in 2nd and usually only once. It will shift under load and stay there.
I read one guys experience that he remounted the exhaust hanger under tension and that killed the vibrations for him. Idk.
I guess I'm just looking for some confirmation that mount is questionable since it's not actually that old mileage wise. 20k I think.

I can't really give you a definitive answer. This car has about 185k miles on it and a lot of parts were/are worn out. Symptoms can be similar for other bushings being worn. I replaced the front ball joints (whole lower arms) and struts before doing the engine mount. After the suspension was improved, the most noticeable symptoms were a dull thump when going forward slowly after backing up and a heavy vibration when I accelerated hard coming out of a corner.
Also, check your transmission mounts, they wear out too. My symptoms were a slight 'hunting' in lower rpm, sloppy shift, and slight yaw on hard acceleration. Here's one from a 180k mile Tiptronic. See the fluid leaking out? Bad.

85k on mine. I'll check the rear mounts when I change the oil in the next week or two. Been meaning to anyway.
I don't have anything quite as dramatic as you're describing but I also don't have the advantage of having driven a "good" one. I only know this platform though my 5k miles on this car.
I do have a slight issue with 1-2 shifts. Mostly when cold which is what I've chocked it up to but it could be worn mounts
Thanks for the tips, I'll take a look. I might also just do it so I know it's good. This is my second old german car and I'm trying to balance good maintenance but not losing my savings because of "while I'm in there" issues.
I've got a blue parts car. I kinda like what Magnus Walker did with different color panels on #277. There's a campaign/car event this weekend and I got thinking about red white and blue, Boxster colors that I have available. I swapped the blue hood first and it hit me: flag.
I normally don't like flashy cars and try to keep a low profile, but it's a red Boxster anyway. For now it's just white duct tape and stars cut from blank shipping labels. It's only there for the weekend, but I like the design. Maybe get some vinyl and make it more permanent.
Too much?

I like it!
If you decide to redo it with vinyl im thinking either the middle white stripe needs to slope downward on the nose to follow the bottom one, or the bottom one should wrap all the way around the nose?

Yes, if I do vinyl it will run a little differently and be fuller. I used exactly all of two rolls of tape and ran out.
