Where to begin . . .

I built a Fiat 600 mounted to a shortened VW pan a few years ago, got it finally welded up using the interior sheet metal and Napoleon hats from the Beetle, all nice and tight. About four hours after completely finishing it up a tree fell crushed the body flat ! Fight down to the pan. A tribute to the gauge of 1960's Italian sheet metal. I scrapped everything.

Just recently I picked up another Fiat 600 and Todd plasma cut everything out of the bottom, floor, bulkheads, sides and front, a nice open shell and I've been searching for a stripped down VW sand rail to use as the new chassis for the better part of a year. No luck at all in finding one close enough and cheap enough.

A few days ago I was searching for some Vette fiberglass panels to sell and stumbled on an old VW Dune Buggy chassis that I'd just parked and put out of my mind. Had a thought and measured the wheelbase. Seventy-nine inches. Measured the Fiat wheelbase and . . . seventy nine inches.

So . . . a new project begins !

I got the following (photos below) and a WHOLE lot more down cellar, looks like I have another Winter project ! While Todd welds up the Mini, I'll poke around at this.
