Was looking for an older 4x4 project. Broncos, Blazers, Powerwagon, Jeeps etc. Kicked around marketplace and the algorithm dropped a couple HMMWVs into the mix so cool, let's run it.
Picked up an 86 M998 6.2 3 speed truck. Overall it's in fantastic shape, odometer says 16,000 miles and i'm inclined to believe it based on its condition but also meh doesn't matter.
6.2 is locked up solid which was awesome because the first plan was to put an engine in it that didn't belong there so it made the price for the truck drop down to what I was looking to spend.
This is far and away the most well behaved, pleasure to work on thing i've ever taken apart. Thus far it's been a total of 3 sockets, a screwdriver and pair of pliers to strip it down to get the motor ready to come out.
Rear driveshaft and trans mount (and whatever ground strap I haven't seen that will rip out) and it's ready to come out.
Overall plan is convert it to a 4 door and put in and engine that never came in one then see where we go from there.
What engine were you thinking?

Leaning towards the German flavor, M113K out of a 55 car
Wait so it looks like converting it to a 4-door is only going to take a roof skin, doors, back piece and seats then?
Whew, I rode around in onein the field, nothing will slap your butt black & blue faster that that canvas covered 2 X 6 they call a seat. Nice truck though, quite versatile; and don't be afraid to go off off road!

Spent way too much time wrenching on those stupid things and test driving 'em to ever want one myself. Good luck with it, though.
Aren't they like, nine feet wide or something?
But seriously, seems like a very cool project.
Intake identifies as snek
I'm impressed at how bald those tires are.
I'd love one of these in the pickup configuration, but I get why you want to make it a 4 door, too. Good luck, I'll be following along.
About 15 years ago I helped put a roll cage in a civ one. It was a serious 'cage for sure.
My wife wants one of these or a duce and a half.
Will this be titled and street legal?

I was going to suggest m275
Was kind of hoping this would have an LS put in it but M113K is the next best thing.

I love LSs but it's been done over and over, wanted to give something new a shot
That transmission will you use?
I think a Cummins would be awesome in one of these.
If you don't mind, what did you pay for it?

Going to use a 5 speed 722 and transfer case out of an ML55
