really nice, i was shopping for another late 70's ford and was amazed at how hard its getting to find a decent one cheap! im a big fan of the 300 i6 myself but with proper maintnence and not revving the hell out of it the old FE should be fine.

i like the toolbox, if anything paint it the white color to make it blend in, it's a good place for your straps and jack and stuff.

supposed to be a 352, no reason to guess otherwise. All of the hoses and such appear to be new, and yes, that little bugger looks like hell to replace.

If you have never done one. Go to confession first. You will have enough to repent for after changing it. It doesn't matter if you are catholic or not.

My dad always said there are three things that show each engine. "If it runs good and decent gas mileage it is a 352. If it will fly, it is a 390. If it just runs good and won't pass a gas station, it's a 360."

I dropped a 390 we built down in a 82 F100 for a class project for my Dad. Torque beast when we were done.

Wait, are you in trouble with the wife over this yet? I am sure there are a few of us that would happily give you what you paid for it.

You know, to help a friend out. To keep the things at home going well and all.

Im with you on the I6 love, I'm not complaining about the V8 but the 300 6 is a great motor. Yeah, I've been shopping non brand specific for anything earlier than 1980 and this is by far the nicest thing I found for $3k or less. Usually its $5k for a driver and anything below that is a major project.

It has the factory, under bed, toolbox, that's where my straps and all will go.

Haven't gotten a feel for fuel economy yet but it is a brute, lots of torque.

Wife likes it, at least as much as she likes any of my strays. This one is at least pretty enough to not be embarrassed in front of the neighbors.

Was there any explanation for the presence of the "c*ck sock" over what looks like a perfectly fine chrome lever?

I'd ditch that single pot master cylinder, and the 3 feet of rubber fuel line under the hood. And probably the tiny looking air filter. Looks great other than that.

Its just a painted black shift lever. The c*ck sock wasn't the doing of the seller, it was by the idiot he bought it from so no real reasoning.

Dual circut conversion will probably happen down the road but I've been driving single circuit cars a long time, they dont scare me much especially considering this truck is destined to operate in a 30 mile radius of my house on low speed back roads.

Yeah, the tiny air cleaner bugs me too, it will be on the to-go list as well as better fuel line and other underhood cleanups.

Great buy and great truck. I say put some new wheels, cut and buff the paint. Put it for sale at ridiculous asking price and drive it in the mean time.

New wheels, yes, as soon as I can find a cheap set of 8 bolt steelies. Cut an buff, no, there are enough other flaws I wouldn't be happy and the last time I went down that road I ended up taking a perfectly fine looking driver and stripping it down to bare metal and having it laid up for 3 years doing a full rebuild. I know my tendencies, I can live with it as is but if I fix it I'll have to do it right and then it would be too nice to be a work truck.

Basically I need to keep all work on this to something that doesn't keep it off the road for more than a weekend. If I ever need the truck and it's laid up then its gone from useful tool to project status and I have enough projects.

Sell...really I've been looking for something like this for 2 years, cheap, good, old trucks are hard to find 'round here, I may keep this awhile because I really need a truck around here.

I guess it's really not that bad with a working parking brake and rear drums that are adjusted correctly.

I do agree on leaving the paint alone, maybe throw a coat of wax on it but nothing more, it's a work truck, work trucks don't have perfect paint.

Where are these "low speed back roads" in South Jersey you speak of?

If you're interested, I have an old 390 air cleaner assembly. Might work for you. Free if you want it.

That would be very cool, this has a non-stock 4 barrel on it though so I'm not sure if it would fit.

I live in south jersey, farm country. The road between me and the local hardware store is 30mph and only .5 miles. Home depot is 5 miles and a 40 mph max. That's about the extent of this trucks purpose in life :)

I'm a huge fan of rubber flooring in vehicles. So much so I usually give WeahterTech a ton of money to put down rubber over the nice carpet.

In reply to JThw8:

It's not doing anything for me. I've had the silly thing for 25 years. It came with the heads and intake I bought off a mid-60's T-Bird to install on a F100 360 I had at the time. IIRC, I just reused the air cleaner from the 360.

Maybe graft the base of the aftermarket one into the base of the 390 one?

Yep, that sounds like a good plan to me. I'll shoot you a PM with my address. Please let me know what shipping costs and I'll be happy to reimburse.

Well got to take her out for a real drive finally. It's a beast. Gears are optional, it will take off in any of them. The speedometer is highly optimistic, I'll need to take a look at that. Temp gauge is inop, I'll have to fix that or at least add an aftermarket for the time being, I like to keep an eye on things with these old girls. But overall it was a load of fun.

Rear axle change, improper tire sizing, lots of variables. I'm not terribly concerned with it yet but I'll be poking at it sooner or later :)

And many thanks again for the housing :)

So the horn doesn't work....I got cut off by an oblivious soccer mom who ran a stop sign the other day and REALLY wanted a horn. Time to fix that. Of course I could just fix the wiring to the stock horn but with suzie soccer mom in mind I had another idea. TRAIN HORN!!

I actually had everthing already since I have air ride components sitting on the shelf for a project and I had bought the air horn a while ago for the honeybadger but never installed it. I did buy a smaller air tank since Im not trying to air up 4 bags with this thing.

Briefly considered but its all going underhood. The joy of old cavernous engine bays is it all fits, originally I was going to mount the compressor and tank in the underbed tool box but I couldn't find a tank small enough (only 6" of height in there) but there's so much space to mount things on the inner fenders its amazing.

Well the old girl has been sitting awhile, mostly because I've been busy but also because it has just been unreliable to start. Finally after failing to start after charging overnight I decided enough was enough and I spent some time sorting all that this morning. New battery, new starter solenoid, new cables and all is right as rain now. Cranks over better than it ever has. I also hooked up the manual choke since the electric was inop.

The wife hooked me up with some parts for my birthday last weekend too so I installed a few today.

New door handle for the missing one on the passenger side.

And a new shift boot

I still want to pull that carpet out and go to a rubber floor but those are a bit pricey so I'll destroy the carpet first and then worry about it
