And, although we are out here on the “right” coast, I do have some excellent contacts in the old 2 stroke Driptroits! Not a lot of folks still living that know those old beasts well. One in Linden TN, and one in VA. Both experts on the modern stuff as well, and good guys. The one in TN loves odd ball stuff, and will work for half (or less) if he’s into to plan!
oh,also have a great diesel contact for busses and big trucks in Silver City NM, as well.

I don't know what your travel plans are, but....
Holy cow, feel like I'm super late to the party.
Going to read through what's been said already and see if I have anything useful to add or if its already been said.
Edit: wow that grew some legs.
I still feel like the project boundaries need further definition before you dive too deep into what to build and how to build it.
So far we've got full-time living space for at least one person, needs to be able to haul racecar and associated paraphernalia, at least reasonably competent on the interstate, look good and don't cost a fortune.
What else? Other occupants? How long will you be staying in it? How much stuff do the occupants need to live there for the projected period? Other must-have design considerations for the comfort of the occupants?
I'm in almost 320 sqft as a geo-bachelor, have been for the last 9 months, build thread link posted already. I'm happy to be a sounding board if you have questions or need further enabling.
I saw this online and thougt of htis thread. You could do a container build and then just haul it around with a truck like this.

You could just go from Walmart to Walmart!
In reply to wearymicrobe :
I watched the whole video. At the end they talk budget. She bought the truck, new for $80k and then spent $110 in the living quarters conversion.
A quick Google returns that $190k in New Zealand dollars is $134k US
I'm really curious how much of a PITA they are to park though. Feels like you're SOL in any city, can't get off the road at all ... aren't you pretty much stuck with RV parks?
In reply to JC1098 :
Walmart/Sam's Club let RVs park overnight in their parking lots (may be some restrictions depending on location and duration) for free. No utility hookups, but free is free, and it makes grocery shopping easy.
Lots of state parks have campgrounds you can stay at, with or without water/electric hookups. If you want all the amenities, yeah, you're pretty much limited to RV parks.
You won't be doing a lot of off-roading in a bus, but that's not really why you live in an RV.

wrong coast, again, but a good deal, if it’s not a scam! Looks legit at a glance, and not too far away for me to put eyes on.
I've been reading along because the young Stampie inside of me wanted to do the same. I think I'd want something old/cool with a modern engine swap. The fire trucks are appealing to me also.
