I bought a gallon from walmart, I'll have to see how concentrated it is. as for the hot tank, maybe I should try another place but the hot tank at my machinist's shop has never impressed me. if it cant take all the paint off of a block I just dont see it putting a dent in this muck. maybe he is cheap and doesnt change fluids enough

ASF? Because I've never had complaints.

If Plating Specialties is still in town, I'll bet they can tank anything.

I keep asking how much I would be willing to pay for a clean tank if and when the fixed one left you stranded in Big Foot's living room?

Idea: Cut the top off (fill the tank with water first) and sandblast it clean, then weld it back together?

Flatlander here..what is the purpose of a split board? One of the coolest builds ever, btw!

I'd go with a ten-gallon tank and a Jerry can (see what I did there?). That way, there wouldn't be a lot of leftover gas to either spoil in the off-season or drain out. The Jerry can (or some other approved fuel can) could be used to extend range if necessary. The extra portability makes it easier to use up the gas.

I've done this a few times. It's really hard to get it to seal up again. Gas will get through tiny pinholes in the welds with ease.

A split board converts into skis, which you can attach skins to and "hike" up a mountain that doesn't have lift service. Backcountry snowboarding without having to carry snowshoes, and you don't ruin the skin tracks for all your ski buddies Then you put it back together and carve nasty lines down the hill!

/\ what he said!

also I have to agree with keith. thought about cutting off the top, it would be nice to see on the other side of the baffle, but after chasing exhaust leaks in welds on my audi this afternoon I just don't think my welding is good enough to chop the top or start from scratch. a new fuel cell would be ideal but I'll say it again, no money for that. piece of mind is great, but I cant buy it with hopes and dreams. the unemployment struggle is real over here!! I'd like to add that my last por15 job is still fine after a decade of use. not sure why everyone has such a bad opinion of the liner kits. like everything else, good prep work pays off. I wont even try to use the liner untill im satisfied with how the inside is looking and rinsing out.

If you're going to seal it, that'll take care of the pinholes. I built a tank years ago and sealed it with Kreem, no problems. But I'll bet that by the time you've bought enough Kreem to seal up a tank this size, that pre-built cell linked earlier would be cheaper.

ebay has what looks like the same tank for $160. What is the budget for restoring what you have

I have spent $80 so far on the fuel tank but most of that is the por-15, still in the box. its pretty hard to justify $200+ when im not working. cant even get an interview in this town

here are my dimensions.
24.75" wide 15.75" long 11.75" deep

the width and length need to be close so it will fit in the frame but the depth isnt as critical. the seats use it for support but that could be changed easily. there is a quattro guy on instagram telling me to put a suspension seat in it but i just dont have the room. maybe with a completely different fuel cell.

Side question- is there any opportunity to offer back country trips for skiers with this, when it's done?

Good way to make up some of the cost of restoration.

I will be doing that for sure. might have to be under the table for a bit. id need to get some guide training if I ever wanted to do it professionally. insurance is probably a nightmare but id like to do that and maybe snowmobile recovery if the work is there.

First responder training would go a long way towards that goal. Start with a WFA course. Guaranteed someone in your area will be running a two-day seminar. As far as insurance, a good release form drafted by a real attorney helps.

Unfortunately, your vehicle may be too old to pass muster with any state regulatory agency to use as a commercial vehicle in this realm without a lot of mods.
