We have 15 $4 sheets of polycarbonate so I'll make a couple windshields for when one inevitably cracks or gets scratched up.

FIL has close to 200 acres in Michigan on the edge of the National forest and there are lots of trails up there that are seasonal roads so I could drive it on them with a normal license plate and not need an ORV permit.  I've wanted a rail forever and jumped on this one when we were up there last summer.  It was a ran when parked deal that i made an offer on assuming engine was bad, and it was.

checked my email, we should have 12 deliveries for it next week.

I will have to wire a proper lighting system once we figure out what's going where.  Have some round chrome headlights on the shelf.  I'll have to look up some pictures to see how we want to make things look

A lot of guys had trouble keeping them clean in the mud, make sure you rig up some kind of wiper. I'm sure you will have a blast with it, I've built 2 trail rigs since then and the sand rail did everything better except keep me clean.

Anybody have any type 4 oval port exhaust manifolds laying around?  I'm not finding anything in my stuff

I've been researching wheel options since i will be putting front brakes on (at least rotors for now because while cool the homemade spindle mount wheels are scary to think of running for real).  I have super beetle fronts that are 4x130 so I either need to get 4x130 wheels(expensive) or get semi expensive drums and rotors that are drilled for 5x4.75 from empi or another vw supplier to run any of the countless gm wheels i have, including a brand new set of basset 15x8 stock car wheels and 15x4 fronts.  So i have a lot of thinking to do.  The wide 5's stick out too much and they're just too wide for a decent normal tire.

i've read horror stories about the 4x130 to 5x4.75 adapters

progress?  Cleaned the tins for over the heads so they can get painted, undecided on colors of anything yet

Too bad you're not closer. I have a spare set of super beetle wheels I'm not going to use. Not pretty, but they'd fit. No idea what shipping 4 steel wheels across the country would cost, but I can look into it. I'd like to see them gone.

If they're 15 by narrow i could use a pair.  I have new front tires with a 15x4 in mind.  I have mismatched rust pitted questionable integrity bug wheels that are not going anywhere near anything except the curb for a scrapper

Today we have temporarily put the flywheel on, measured crank end play, it's in spec with the shims that were already there behind the seal, so it's time to send it

Didn't come with a clutch disc alignment tool, turned one on the lathe

Your clutch tool is quite long.

Also you sent me a 2002 WRX ECU not a 2.2L (but it is labeled as the 2.2 so I understand completely how this happened).  If you need that back let me know.   I have another one so it's not a big deal.

If you want a Kenedy Swap kit to Subaru that rail I know a guy that has one

Hmm, jim must have labeled the computer wrong.  He told me that was the one that was running the car and even had it all wrapped up separate from the random boxes.  Sell it on ebay or something.  I just sold my WRX last month along with my spare ej205, i'm out of the subie game for a little bit.  If this 2.0 is bad i may take you up on those bits because my sisters roommate has a rotbox 90's legacy that is falling apart around the 2.2.

I wish every engine install was as straightforward as an acvw engine install

part of me wants to cover the engine and grind/weld/fix, but the grind/weld/fix is worthless without the engine running, so we'll work on that first.  Did not remove the distributor so it should be close.  New cap/rotor on.  Plugs and wires are here, empi runners here, I don't have a carb that pattern so i think I might fab an adapter for the motorcraft 2bbl from the pinto motor.  It's not frozen and it's $0.  Otherwise i ebay up a progressive weber knockoff.

berkeley it i ordered a weber knockoff.  Slam that easy button!  I wait 6 days for a carb or i spend several hours fabbing an adapter plenum for a carb that may or may not work

the empi runners look like ass.  Disappointed in the quality(flange thickness, welds, runners lining up to the plenum they are made to work with).  What a bunch of E36 M3.  But whatever, they're here and i'll run them

In reply to Patrick (Forum Supporter) :

A acvw probably doesn't flow enough air to make the craptastic empi runners worth porting. Lets be honest here. Its really only going to need like 200cfm per cyl MAX. ever. They probably could be welded damn near shut and flow that.

In reply to Dusterbd13-michael (Forum Supporter) :

yeah, they're clear inside.  it's that the welds are fugly from runner to flange right out in the open. it's bothering me but not enough to do something about it.

my lost in the mail 914 exhaust manifolds showed up today.  going to use one set on the car and clean up/paint/sell the other set to hopefully zero the ones going on the car.  i don't think i posted about it, but last week i lowballed 2 pairs of 914 exhaust manifolds listed as heat exchangers and he came back right where i wanted to be.

Tins were mangled so I chopped them to fit my needs and now they're getting sprayed with some free blue paint from the garage we cleaned out last spring

getting closer.  Should be able to wire the coil and fuel pump, change the oil, and test fire.  If that's successful we can do new throttle cable and see if it moves. If it moves then we can fix the tubes and welds, do exhaust and lights, etc

I gave this a thumbs up like an hour ago.  I just cancelled out my thumbs up because I know it'll be stuck in my head at 3am when I can't fall back asleep.
