Too bad you can't make the Spirit body fit on this thing.
Well, you *could*, with a lot of stress, time, and effort that probably wouldn't be worth it.
I look forward to seeing whatever metal gets draped over this chassis.
Carry on!

So cool!
I went looking for some visual inspiration and found this. Corvette driveline with Duster body.
Here is the direction I went with. I didn't build it, but bought it like this. I am not as brave as you and jh36

Just a little light reading for you if you haven't seen this before.
Thats some great work, but about 8-10 pages in that guy gets a big ole stick up his ass.

Thats almost exactly what is in my head!!!!
So, i bought the box from halfast. I now own a nascar steering box for a Winston cup car.
That statement gives me chills.
Tge last nascar i drove was in 1998 when i was 17. It was a restored lake speed car that was running in scca that was being sold by the guy inwas working for at the time. I got to drive it up the road reom tye ship, and then got followed by the Matthews police back. Ironically, "my" cup car is only a few mikes from there.
I meed to find a pitman and universal joint to hook the box up with. Once i have all the parts here, i can determine what I have and what i need. I think.
This is extremely exciting.
Oh, to have inspiration like that--good work! I'll leave you with this suggestion: Diablo Sawzall blades.
Hell yes.
That Duster/Vette hybrid needs a little bit of fender flare (not enough to cover all of the tires) and Petty Blue paint and then it's perfect. As is it's amazing.
I'm vicariously excited for you.

I don't think ive seen you in a while. Welcome back!!!
All: im not sure I'll sleep tonight. I have a uhaul trailer reserved, cash in my wallet, should have tge miata rolling and pushed out before work.
Im a little nervous, as ive never tried to back a big trailer by myself. Just small ones. I know i can if i take my time, but adds a layer of complexity and thought to this.

You'll be fine. If my DA can back down your street then you can do it. I try to hit "marks" with my inside wheel. Like when I backed up to your house I put the inside trailer wheel on the edge of the drive and the ditch at your mailbox.

I feel it's easier to back up big trailers. Things happen slower...
I am very into the Duster idea. When it comes time to narrow the waist, I'm thinking what I did for the Camaro body might work for you. Looking forward to see lots of pics once you haul her in.
edit...just checked and Duster wb was 108"...just like a Camaro which slipped right on my Asa tubeframe. A good omen !

I picture that with tube fabricated bumpers and nerf bars along the door sills and B pillar. Hnnnnnngh.

Figure out a photoshop or way to show me whats in your head. Cause i don't have bumpers.
In reply to Dusterbd13-michael :
With the nerf bars, I wonder if he's eluding to the old asphalt/dirt ttrack races know as Modifieds. Popular chassis was Vega, Pinto, Gremlin, etc
In old dirt track it was popular to add exterior metal to save bodywork

Steer from the bottom of the wheel. Want the trailer to go left, steer left from the bottm of the wheel, & vice verso. Whole lot more intuitive to me
Midnight thought:
Service, cleaning and inspection would be way easier without the body in it. However, id like to get it running and driving prior to the body swap. Limit my issues.
How hard are these cars to remove the body? Is it light enough for two people? I know ive seen the bodies complete and for sale, so i know they come off in one piece (theoretically)
In reply to Dusterbd13-michael :
From the corner carvers link earlier, apparently the body panels aren't fully welded, its more like they are heavily tacked together in multiple spots kind of like how stamps used to be before they became stickers.
Makes it easy to zip through half a dozen tacks to remove one panel that has been "adjusted" by another driver on the track.
I don't know that there is an easy way to reattach after, but it sounds promising.
In reply to Mr_Asa :
I saw that in there. May be the way i go, but taking it off whole would be awesome if I can.
And that guy may be my hero. I hope tge driving experience for me is just like his. Only with less failures.
