the 4AGE powered FX's were either coded "GTS" - with flairs and skirts, or coded "Q" for the more subtle model......

Don't yet know the bores... but I have pistons for stock, and O/S so that shouldn't be an issue. The pan is toast....

already have a replacement on order from rockauto - $43.00

bottom end inspected....

Mains look pretty good.......

rods are a bit worse for wear...

but I'm TOLD that it appears a polishing should be all the crank needs...... I'll be checking it out for myself in the next few days...

So... the block is clean, crank polished, bearings on order. The block is damaged, and will get overbored.

Current plan is a high comp (10.7 to 1) running stock cams(240 total, 204@ .040", 7.5mm lift).

The head is getting it's 3 angle... port work is finished

further updates to come......

15-1423 is the Loynings serial number Skippy will now carry

so a quick run down... Skippy's new lump - 7 rib none squirter block, 40mm rod journal crank, 40/18 rods modified to take a press fit 20mm wrist pin, 81.5mm aftermarket 10.3 to one pistons, new Toyota rod bolts/nuts, Cometic .036 head gasket, stock 87 and earlier cams, AEM adjustable timing pulleys, and an OST ported largeport head with a Loynings valve job...

Well.... since Skippy hasn't sold.... and Grunt (my AE95 All-Trac Corolla sedan) popped a head gasket... Skippy has been pressed into service.

And as such the repairs updated maintenance begins.... First up... bad noise in front end... left front... clunking, banging over bumps... car remains mostly stable...

FOUND: broken shock... new set of KYBs on order......

also... car has wheel locks... but I don't seem to have the key.... will have to get the locks removed if I can't get P.O to come up with wheel lock key......

Fun......

Post a picture of the locks. A GRMer greatly impressed me lately by correctly identifying wheel locks from a picture.

I have successfully removed all kinds of wheel locks by hammering a junk socket on them, and removing as normal.

Looks similar to mine but 6 outside edge thingies?

Here's mine:

Mine has 10 thingies. My tool is labeled R10 on the end. Maybe dorman makes one labeled R6?

I don't mean to be a broken record here, but despite its appearant oversimplification, I assure you, the above works. You may have to experiment with a couple of different metric and SAE sizes before you get the one that won't go on by hand, but with a good hammer smack, sticks on tight(remove it once you break to loose, and can turn by hand). I have not found that this necessarily ruins the socket, but suggest junk stuff just in case.

Again, I don't mean to nag, and will not bring it up again, but hope this helps.

Got one blower motor fan speed working... whoopie... can now take it out when defroster is needed....

if only one speed is working on the blower it usually is the blower resistor????

Can we get an approximate diameter on that thing? Looks very similar to one that came with my Scirocco.

I'll see if I can dig it up.

Lug nut removal socket... I dont know why everyone doesnt have a set, reverse threaded on the inside, just use an impact and the lugs come right off.

In reply to oldeskewltoy:

Those look like the junk wheel lock kits they sell at oreillys. Dont think you can buh just keys though, buy an extractor or hammer a socket on them.

If only high works its probavky the resistor, most sytems vypass the resistor and just run on the relay when on max.

nope... that is the odd thing... it only works on speed 2 of 4... speeds 1, 3 and 4 don't work

Borrowing from Artie Johnson.....VERRRRY interesting.... just removed (2016) OEM Toyota gasket on top... aftermarket type gasket from 2013 on the bottom....

Same failure...(red as well as green arrows) between cylinders 1 and 2, the exhaust side coolant passage. Note the passages between the other cylinders (purple arrows) show no similar decay.
