Nevermind. MC I bought isn't setup for a booster, apparently.
Pocket for the plunger is about 2" deep in the one from the truck. This one is only 3/8" or so.

So, today:
we have an idling engine (vacuum port on carb covered with a rotted, cracked cap, replaced and we were golden.)
With an idling engine, we have a fully warmed up engine. Phenomenal oil pressure, nice steady temps when warmed, good throttle response, moderately easy starting, etc.
Verification on why the shift cable broke, and a halfway thought out path to fixing
We do not have a good MC (pictures of all to come later when I have good interwebs) and less than no brakes.
Semi-frustrating, especially as I have to travel 4+hrs one way to get to her, so I only have every other weekend to work on her. If I can't get her running reliably soon I fear we might lose the shop
But here. Have a video
Old rusty MC Vs new clean MC. Everything matches except the depth of the plunger.
Ordered for a '79 Vette
OG cable and the one Nitroracer sent me. Unfortunately that one didn't fit.
if i remember correctly, you shluld be able to remove the booster pushrod and cut it down without too much trouble. Gm made two lengths randomly, and then they were adjustable as well.

I did think about getting the death wheel out. Maybe I'll wander to the truck tomorrow and yank on the rod.

Was kinda cool today to have YouTube feed me your idling video 1 minute after you uploaded it.
So, Dad went and yanked on the MC rod. Popped out.
Doesn't quite look like any of the ones I've seen online. Anyone recognize it?
Is my booster borked now?
I have not seen the black part before. Thats a new one on me.
It wouldn't be the master, but the booster that would be fubar if anything. I wonder if the rod is siezed in the black part and the black part was supposed to be sealed to the diaphragm inside? Im guessing. I don't honestly know, and im whacked out of my skull on migraine meds.
In reply to Dusterbd13-michael :
Yeah, I was typing as I was trying to get outside while its still somewhat light out. Meant to say Booster, not MC.
I doubt Dad really hauled on the rod. Maybe it was boogered up at some point before I got it down.
In reply to Mr_Asa :
The rod(?) actually came out/went back in pretty easily, all I did was clean it up before I put it back; the steel part does not move within the black plastic, I think it was formed around it. I have no idea what sort of mechanism is inside the booster; if you want, I can pull it out again and try to get a picture of what's inside? Tomorrow.
There is a part number on the grommet/seal, you can almost read it in the first picture - but I doubt it'd tell you anything. Maybe the booster mfr name, if you're lucky?
Wouldn't surprise me if the booster and Mcyl were meant to be paired with each other.

My inner 14 year old is having a seizure right now.
Glad to see this slowly moving forward.
Ok, so I figured out wheels.
Tirerack had Pirellis on sale. I found some Dodge 5-spokes that were lightly thrashed, stripped and painted 'em.
Please remember, these are temporary wheels. I'll eventually go back to what's on there.
Apparently they were used in a burnout competition.
Being divorced has its perks
And I found a surprising match for Rosie. But at the same time its... well its flesh. I have Wheels of Flesh to go with my Briefcase Full of Guts. They need touchup, but I kinda really like it.

For research purposes I typed it into urban dictionary

If you all really wanted to know you could type it in yourself.
