Picked up engine oil (I have to check and see how much ATF, Antifreeze, and gear oil I already have. I know I have a litre of brake fluid) plus the flare nut adapter to run hard lines for the tranny cooler. VERY close proximity to the header, and a friend's C3 LSx burned to the ground from a failed trans cooler line - so I'm doing hard line. With any luck, it should be at least ~running~ soon.

I hurt. I am on Tylenol all day, and by about 3pm I am really done and can neither sit nor stand very well. I struggle to sleep at night because of the pain. We arrived home Wednesday, and I was right knackered. It's Friday night and I am not noticing improvement just yet. Chiropractor doesn't work Friday's, but I already have an appointment Tuesday anyway. I had been in pain for the last 5 or 6 days of travelling. I generally have a very high pain threshold, and this is doing me in.

Once my wife's shifts take a break (and I can move), I'm going to haul the seat out of the Buick and take a meat carver to the seat foam for a more humanoid shape. I actually sat in EVERY seat at Pick-N-Pull that would bolt into the Buick, and they all suck.

Maybe a set of Honda buckets??

Three hours to put the header back in. Dang I'm good. Remflex gasket installed, collectors are bolted up.

Note to self: make the entire doghouse removable.

Another note to self: Make Tri-Y headers instead, for more clearance.

A third note to self: easily remove the old oil filter on the used engine before you encase it in headers and make removing it an unpleasant experience.

A fourth note to self: I should have mocked up the engine AND transmission AND collectors before building the FRAME RAILS.

Taking a break to refocus, take some Tylenol, then I'll be back at it.

Skinny G back when I said watch yur back, I meant it from a purely personal perspective. BRO I feel yur PAIN!!!! I've had a lumbar hemi laminectomy and my dear sweet wife had a four hour stint to correct issues from L1 to S1(crack of her a$$). please rest up, your builds call to you....peace out....

Tranny lines are done, and connected.

Collector flange was clearanced with a Sawzall. Like a boss. I'll likely do something else if I ever pull this engine. Like a slip fit and springs or something.

Fuel lines and cooler lines.

Also packed the wheel bearings, sandblasted and painted the dust shields, and installed the new rotors. No pic yet - gotta find the dust cap. Also filled up all fluids - nothing leaking yet (there's still hope).

Way cool project! Back in high school I stuffed a 427 into a Gremlin but that was easy compared to your project.

Buick seat: don't know if this will help but I have always gotten backaches from Ford seats (just look at one, bam!) Years ago I bought an '88 5.0 Mustang for an airport car and to alleviate the backaches I finally came up with a fix. I stuffed a square-ish piece of plywood between the seat springs and foam bottom right where one sits, and another piece between the springs and foam in the lumbar area. Worked like a champ, you couldn't feel the wood, the seat was a lot more comfortable. The mod was still there years later when I sold the car!

Oil filter: Have you considered a remote filter? Any room to plumb one?

Cheers,

Mark

I apparently didn't own a large size oil filter wrench, which would have made the job easier. There was not enough room between the block and the header to get my chain wrench in there. I ended up just beating the filter off-center with a hammer until it started to turn. It would have been easier had I removed the filter before all this.

Good tip on the plywood - I'll keep that in mind once I get in there.

SKG is there anything in the PnP's near you that has lower lumbar seat buttons ...96 and newer olds aurora anything chevy buick gmc pu Cadillac??? most anything I buy now has this criteria.....lower seat adjustment (all ways) then terminal velocity attributes...

Previously I had gotten into the back seat and BOOT-BERKLEYED the seat back like a MOFO to give it some lumbar support.

The issues are two-fold:

The seat-bottom is arced, providing inadequate support for your thighs. It presses just under your butt cheeks.

The UPPER seat-back has some sort of seam in it which presses into the lower part of my shoulder blades. There is no support above that, despite there still being seat.

I suppose I could go on the Krispy-Kreme Diet and change my name to PhatG.

Painted the calipers and dust caps, and installed new rotors and pads. Also connected the front flex lines. Worked a bit on the driver's side windshield squirter, and finished the metal fab on the battery disconnect. Splashed some paint in the hatch area to hide my primer. Just as an aside - I ~love~ having my sandblasting cabinet. Ooooh doggy! I also found the rear flex hose, so I'll return the one I bought. I ~will~ need to fabricate some sort of bracket for it though.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!...there are no muffin tops in GRM....repeat after me. Even the seats in the 'o4 Bravada have for me sufficient support points to alleviate discomfort...yes, I know, what about the wiring to make something like that happen? but having seen you and Dusterbd13 wire theE36m3 out of nothing ...I'm thinkin you might have it in your bag of tricks...

First step towards goodness - with 22L of fuel in the tank, the fuel pump works, and there are no leaks.

Next step: Battery connections.

IT RUNS!!

Good news: it didn't catch fire. Caught first crank. This is without timing set or anything - not touching anything.

Bad news: battery disconnect doesn't shut it off. Heater core leaks. Transmission intermediate accumulator leaks.

I'm a bit shaky with nervous adrenaline (as you can tell in the video), and need to take a break for now. Maybe a cigarette, and I don't even smoke.

Not E36 M3ting off might be the charging system is feeding the ignition circuit.

I ~thought~ I had wired keyed power to the wee posts of the battery disconnect, to the isolated ground of the idiot light, which then went to the excite wire of the alternator.

I will go through it and see where I screwed up.

Pulled the Intermediate Accumulator O-Ring out and dicovered that I somehow pinched the o-ring when I assembled the transmission two years ago. Luckily I had another o-ring in the B&M Shift Kit that I initially used in the Crusty Chevy (but did NOT disable the accumulator). This was an easy fix. Ignore the coolant on the trans - that's next.

I pulled the heater core, which is merely disconnect the hoses and remove one bolt and out it comes. I fabricated a couple plugs so I could pressure test the core with the air compressor turned way down.

There was a big crack in one of the tanks.

So I soldered it up.

It held pressure, so it went back in and got it hooked up. Now working on back brake lines, which for humour's sake have to be ISO flare at the T-fitting, and SAE flare at the wheel cylinders.
