So when I got laid off... despite my best efforts I had to give my work laptop back. which had actually been my occasional personal gaming rig for 2 years... it was setup to run solidworks on 3 monitors so it had 32 gigs of ram and a dedicated graphics card.. really solid setup.
now I'm down to an old ultrabook a friend gave me a last year.
that was until today..
Stefan was selling some old PC parts and I narrowly missed buying the best stuff. but Stefan was nice enough to assemble the 2nd best stuff of what he had into an old case he had lying around...
he was willing to ship it to me if I paid the shipping and wouldn't take any money for the PC itself.. I mean it's old.. but man.. I've gotten it out of the box he shipped it in... and I've never been so excited to TEST DRIVE A COMPUTER
ZEH ULTIMATE GAMING MACHINE YAH????
circa.. like 2007... ish...
I am missing the correct cables to connect it to the to one monitor I have... so I'll go get one tomorrow...
based upon the specs of the parts Stefan threw together... it MIGHT be able to run iRacing.... we gonna find out..
Concerned about the specs and the minimums on IRacing:

the 8800gt in SLi might help a little, but the processor might be a bigger issue (that and the slow drive, but SSDs are cheap these days).
I did find a pair of nVidia 560Ti that could be run in SLi, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it compared to some newer parts.
Glad you received it ok and that you're excited for it. I'm happy it's going to someone that will make use of it. Have fun!
In reply to Stefan (Forum Supporter) :
yeah I started a build thread on purpose.. I expect to use what's here to get online for random gaming And then start building up a new set of guts to put into the cause this is too amusing to not keep using.
thanks again man!
if it struggles with iracing, check out Race 07 on Steam...pretty awesome touring car game that's old but still fun.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/8600/RACE_07/
The RACE Injection pack on that page actually comes with a bunch of extra stuff, different car types, GT cars, formula cars, etc.
Soooo? Any iRacing success to report?

Somehow the top of your case reminds me of a VHS tape rewinder.

I have been up to my eyeballs in work and i still haven't bought the cable I need to make my monitors work with it.
It's on my list.. not the highest thing right now.. but it's moving up.
So I made a joke on FB last night when i started looking at what a new PC build would cost compared to my Crappy Miatas....
I had a friend reach out who works for that Austin based computer company.. who offered up helping me get a good deal on a new setup.
So i built a setup today... and then found a coupon code i missed in the morning ...
this is the guts of what i bought.. it will arrive next month
Daylan and I talked and I'm going to pass this tower onto him.
ok, after a month of waiting, my new PC finally showed up.
Alienware R10 Ryzen Edition with a Ryzen 9 3900 and a Nvidia 2080 Super GPU
got it loaded up and running and ran it though some baseline paces on the 3D Mark Time Spy Benchmark in Demo mode
91st Percentile Performance..... I'm pretty pleased with my purchase.
and then 20 minutes later the used G920 I bought off my buddy arrived!
This is going to be mounted on a playseat Challenger base that my buddy offered to me for free. I am very excited to get the sim rig together in a few weeks.
well a few weeks at my parents.... turned into 2 months when I got the green light to drive the new car at Road America with Gridlife..
BUT.. after being home for a week.. I was able to go retrieve the sim rig with the Fit
and bring it home.. and remove the unknown condition G29 that came with the base.. to install my gently used G920...
My buddy also threw in a monitor stand he didn't need anymore.. it's only hooked up with one monitor right now because the stand is designed for a slightly narrower monitor size than I have right now SO. I loaded up the wider of my 2 monitors and got cracking..
Everything is fully operational and I ran Asseto Corsa and Dirt Rally 2.0 last night to test it out.
Tonight I got an iRacing membership and started the large download of all the assets so I have everything i can need right now.. right at my fingertips.
