Any chance you can save that rusty nose metal when you redo my car?

I wouldn't know anything about that.

Speaking of...whats up with the Rambler? That thing is destined to be a great ride when done.

Ian:

Actually thought of mailing the rad mount crossbar to you cause I recall yours might be a tad rusty?

I'll have to take a look. It's been awhile since I looked at it. I know it's not perfect, but I've seen photos of ones in much worse condition.

I'm not sure what you have done with the HVAC yet but I have used these people before and always had success. I retroed a geo storm hatchback once and I think when I let the windows down the ambient temp dropped. Arizona Air

It's still waiting its turn. I have 2 open projects I need to make some progress on. I should have one finished in the next couple weeks.

Also, scope creep is berkeleying killing me. As in I'm installing a 220v compressor this week. LOL

Seriously, you are so close to Michigan, pop over the boarder and pick one up. 'Just visiting friends for the day, nothing to declare' That rebuilt caliper in your trunk was there before you visited. One of us (me for starters) would buy you a drink while you are here.

This! Also, if you're telling us that there's money to be made smuggling car parts into Canada, we may just have to put together some sort of GRM Millenium Falcon.

I do a fair bit of parts pick-up in port huron. Still have to pay sales tax and the dollar exchange is at $.33.

The pay-off is free shipping to Port Huron, where as shipping to Canada is not free and quite expensive. Plus you get to pay exorbitant brokerage fees.

Now...the beer is enticing!

We already have our transport ship here in Michigan. Edit unfortunately I just realized it actually hails from enemy territory south of the civilized boarder. That's why it's painted Imperial colors. Maybe we can kidnap it and turn it into an Alliance ship?

I was going to set up a catapult in Mexico but maybe I'd be better off using to hurl parts into the snow.

Been going down a list of small boring stuff that does not merit much notice. Then today the Minion walks in with a box of flooring that was surplus to his requirements, so we had some fun.

At the risk of reopening the rear flooring conversation again, I just bought a wagon with a flat hard plastic storage area in back. The magazines panned it in when new for crap sliding around. Sure enough, it's annoying as hell. Several tie down points are something to consider. I'm thinking of one of those truck web things as a solution in my case. The wood floor does look great to me, For What Its Worth.

Since we've re-opened - the wood is impractical if you ever want to actually put anything in the hatch area. I believe noise will also be an issue - nothing like a huge, flat, hard surface to bounce noise around. Trust me - I drive a 240. I suppose some like it -- I love a good looking hardwood floor inside a house. Does nothing for me in a pickup bed -- even less inside a car. I'd carpet it. Alas - it's subjective and it's your car. Actually - SWMBO's car I reckon. So - enuf said.

Hey...Keep in mind that in Pete's garage the beer budget exceeds the project budget, and when we get bored we try stuff. Probably how this whole project got started in the first place.

This particular install looks to domestic for my taste and would need at least some "Cargo Strips) to break up the dance-floor. While laminate would not be my first choice if I did this, I did discover that laminate has the advantage of being hard to mar

I think narrow planks would help the look a good bit. The wide planks look too household for your function.

Why this E36 M3 takes forever...

Simple task, install the brakes on each corner of the car. Rear was a piece of cake. Fronts not so much cause some clown stretched the chassis by 7". Pretty SS flex lines now had no place to mount on the chassis.

How hard can it be to remount the brackets to a forward position? How about 4 hours by the time I find a perfect spot where the hose wont bind on the suspension during full travel, stress the flex line or hit the wheel/tire as it goes from lock-to-lock?

Hard right turn:

Hard left turn:

Rears were a piece of cake by comparison, except the dust shield has somehow shifted counterclockwise and prevented me from bolting the caliper to the upright. Weird since it came off of here and that dust shield is pressed on?

Narrower, plus they need strips between them to look right.

I see jackstands. Does this mean everything underneath is painted, and in its final configuration? Or are you potentially going back on the rotisserie?

All painted underneath and the rear suspension is in to stay. Just need to torque up the axle nuts to like 250 ft-lbs to call that done.

The tub will go up on the spinner one last time so that I can do the exhaust. I bought a box of bends and will piece that together with the car on its side cause it sucks to do lying on my back.

My big hurdle right now is getting the tinwork done in the nose so that I can mount the rad and AC condenser. I envy people like Benmodified who just seem to have a clear mental image of what they are going to do from day one. Me, I get stuck and tend to fall in love with the challenge more so than the solution.

137 days till first drive.

Enough wringing of hands and avoiding the issue, time to roll up the sleeves and get a cooling system stuck in the nose of this thing.

All in place and everything mounted on rubber feet or grommets. Still need to fab up an upper rad support.

126 days left to go.

Lot of non-photogenic detail work to wrap up the task, but the technical risk portion is done; everything fits and clears and stuff can be serviced.

In reply to NOHOME: I just gave you an 'atta boy' at mazduece's expense (unicorn of my destruction) , but I'm sorry, you and loose cannon(SCCA EMod MGB/BGT) are my 'FAB SHOP HEROES'. Wrenches and bolts are one thing (done that...still doing it), but when you bring the plasma,MIG,angle grinder, spot welder,TIG into the equation a new plateau has been scaled. Thank you for this adventure.
