Hi there, does anyone know if an awd r32 golf gearbox can fit onto the vw vr5 engine? I assume u can because the engines are basically the same and I've heard of alot of people swapping the vr5 gearbox onto vr6 engines, just wanted to know if the opposite works :)
And before anyone mentions the 4motion awd gearbox for the vr5, i know it exists but i cant seem to find any for sale :(

I can't answer your question, but I saw someone selling a full Synchro drivetrain conversion the other day for $4k. The seller had both VR6 & 4cyl bellhousings for it.
VR5? You thinking inline 5 O7K engine... yes talk to Jesse at Banchwerks in Providence RI or Josh at Nothing Leave Stock in Coopersburg PA. Both have done it. Its a combo of R32 parts and gear boxes.

In the late 90s VW did release a b5, I honestly dont know much about them....but they are out there
There are folk working on and, I believe, have adapted the Audi 01E 6spd to the 07k engine.
VR5 is same bolt pattern as the VR6 so should be no issues. Other than the fact that you are missing a very important cylinder and the added power.

There are actually a number of people who have adapted the 01E to the 07k. Requires some cutting and welding of the bell housing.
As for the OP's question, yes, the VR5 and VR6 share the same transmission bolt pattern.

Actually no im not, the vr5 is a VW engine and was basically a vr6 from the golf r32 but with a cylinder chopped off

Ah thank you very much! I will be building the engine anyway so the "missing power" will not be an issue ;)
Why not just start off with the VR6?

Cause it took a few posts on this forum for someone to know what he was talking about. Matt from Iron Trap Garage built one in a caddy long ago but Josh at NLS did the R32 stuff with one. Trying to remember if it was Orchid who built a MKI Polo with one?

Vr5s are cheaper and i like the sound alot more :)

I'm going to say you're not in North America then?
Also 5 cylinders usually sound cool , I keep thinking of putting an 07k 5 cylinder in my mk2...but we'll see.
