I could track the 924s, and performance should be comparable to an E30 - it's just that the level of work required to make it a reliable-ish track car is beyond what it would take to be a good street car. There are also newer platforms that can do double-duty with fewer compromises and have much higher performance envelopes out-of-the-box.
My 924S is running like crap these days - i'm in troubleshooting mode and suspect I might have jumped timing by a tooth somehow. I was gonna do timing belts this winter anyhow so not too worried, but didn't drive it as much this summer/fall due to lousy idle and stuff.
Side note: if you are looking for any more of the phone dial wheels, I have a set just sitting in my shed (well, one is my full-size spare in the car). So if you want another set for winter, track, or whatever I'm sure we could make a deal.

Bummer that the car's not running right. I'm debating dropping the entire drivetrain on mine over the winter to fix various things - I can't fit the whole car into the garage, but I could bring it inside in bits and pieces :-)
Thanks for the wheel offer. I've been half looking for 4 front wheels from a 986 Boxster for a square 17" set-up as performance tire selection for the stock 15s are kind of limited...

IDK if you follow my thread, but I'm running a staggered 911 d90 (16") set with 205s up front and 225s in the rear and I really like the handling/grip balance with that setup (and it looks great IMO). Only downside is no ability to rotate, but I don't drive a ton of miles so not an issue for me.
Haven't started-up the car in a bit, and since we've had rain the last few days that has washed all the salt off the road, I figured it was a good time for a drive to start the year. Happy New Year everybody.

Happy new year! I was hoping to take mine out today but woke up to snow and ice today. At least I got to drive it over the weekend.

I really like the look of your wheels and tire setup I am hoping I might be able to dig up an affordable set of those wheels.
Decided to fix what ails the car.
Took the day off yesterday and got started.
The car has not been starting easily over the winter. I thought it was the battery, but it wasn't charging once I got it running, so the first order of business was to pull the alternator and have it tested. The guy at Autozone said that I was the first person in a year who has come in to test an alternator. Mine is crusty-enough to be original to the car, and it failed, so that went to the top of the shopping list. Can't find any Bosch re-built units anywhere, so I may try a Rock Auto special (I don't know that I want to rebuild my own).
Underside of the engine is totally wet, so along with the other known issues with the car, it looks like an oil pan gasket is in order as well.
Wanted to get an order placed before imported parts prices go up, so I've got the following on order:
Thinking about dropping the engine and drivetrain out of the car entirely for better access to all of the components, as the whole back-end needs to come out to pull the torque tube, and I need to lower the subframe any way to get the oil pan out. Should be a fun spring of wrenching. Thoughts?
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and all that...
Replaced the grommet around the rear lock cylinder. Gotta start somewhere this spring...
It's the little things. The other day I replaced the missing knob for the side mirror controller on my car. If this weekend is decent I am going to try and get out and at the very least wash my car.
Nice, shiny, and new,
but still not charging...
...and it sounds even worse than the one that came out.
Fortunately, the return window is still open. Maybe I will have to hunt down a real Bosch...
I took the generator from my '67 Volvo to an old rebuild shop in the area and for $100 had it turned into a factory-fresh Bosch unit completely gone through by a guy that looks like he'd been doing them since Eisenhower was president. Not sure if you have anything like that in the area, but I recommend it!

I'm going to start looking around for a rebuilder in my area, or maybe even look into re-building it myself (could be a good indoor rainy-day activity when I can't work on the car outside).
