Well, I was right.  My daughter got rear ended today leaving school.  Looks like I'll get a shrockworks bumper paid for by their insurance now.  My daughters ok, just a mild concussion.

Yeah, the more I think about it what I'm going to do is put the OEM bumper I got on and just pocket the insurance $$$.

Check engine light came on early this week.  Yep, P2a00 again.  MF'er!!!  Back to the shop it went today, he pressure checked the exhaust and found a leak on the downstream cat flange right before the 2nd O2 sensor.  Then when he looked more closely turns out that flange weld is broken, so the gasket can't actually get compressed.  Since it's me and my luck, he's out of welding gas so I won't get the truck back till Monday.

Oh well, at least the root cause was found, plus the air intake boot leak.  The truck is running better than it ever has plus it got nearly 17mpg on the last tank.  That's pretty much all city driving too.  Hopefully this is the end of the saga and it runs now without anything but gas and oil changes for a long time.

Got the truck back from the shop, it was the flange on the stock exhaust that failed, not the new aftermarket cat.  So that's welded back on and hopefully the end of my P2a00 code issues.  Yesterday I dropped the car off with the "new" stock bumper I got from our very nice GRMer and the body shop put it on.  It was worth paying them a small amount to make sure that there wasn't any other damage and not to have to spend a morning of my time doing it.

So hopefully, going forward it's just oil changes on this rig for awhile....

Decided to swap the winter wheels/tires on since I'd just done it to my wife's Cayenne.  Maybe 3 weeks early, but since the all seasons are pretty worn I figured I might as well.

Daughter called me last Friday, while I was driving down to NM to tell me the Xterra stalled and was sounding funny and the check engine light was on again.  Awesome!  Finally had time to scan it last night and I'm relieved it's not the dreaded O2 sensor code I've been fighting with.  Now it's a cam sensor code.  So happy it's something different, unhappy that this thing can't seem to go more than a month or two without being broken.

Happily it still drives and my daughter has a school event about ten minutes from the shop this Thursday.  So she's going to drop it off there in the morning and he'll fix it and have it done by the time she's done late afternoon.  Hopefully this makes it thru the winter now.  Very much doubt I'm going to keep this once my daughter leaves for college.  I'll make sure it's totally sorted but it'll get sold this August/September....

Shop got it squared away, one of the cam sensors was testing just out of range.  Figured they're both the same age and had both replaced.  Wasn't too expensive, hopefully now it runs without any further issues.

So for the last few months the truck has been driving perfectly.  Got the card in the mail that the plates needed to be renewed, so I sent my daughter to the smog station to get tested.  Those Walker cats are kicking butt, HC was 0/.0121, CO was 0.4376 and NOx was 0.0427.  It easily passed and I just paid the state and renewed the plates online a little bit ago.  Hopefully it runs well now for quite some time!

Love these things, neighbor has one with north of 350k that runs like a top with minimal maintenance.

Hopefully now that it's thrown its hissy fit, it's good to go.  Previous owner did the suspension, front brakes and over hauled the AC.  I did the rear brakes, battery, plugs, serpentine belt, cam sensors, O2 sensors, cats and the exhaust leak.  Plus replaced the radio with an Apple CarPlay one.

Oil change done on it today.  Still running fine, has 135.xxx on it now.

Big snow storm this past Thursday.  Was out in the Xterra, stopped at a stop light in 2wd.  Light turned green, rear tires spun some, then caught and I drove off.  Brake, ABS, VDC and slip lights came on.  Over the next few days sometimes they'd be off, sometimes back on again.

My OBD2 reader pops up no codes, CEL not on.  Some googling points to either a bad ABS/wheel sensor, or a bad ABS module.  I'm having a tough time believing the ABS module somehow got cooked by some wheel slip.

I need to figure out how to read the ABS/wheel sensors so I can see which one is bad and replace it...

Glad I missed the big snows on Thursday. I had enough fun trekking through it in Utah saturday.

To think I bought that thing almost a decade ago originally.

I have an intermittent wheel speed sensor issue on my Frontier as well.  If you figure out how to diagnose one please share!

Drove it into work today, no lights on the dash.  When I scanned it yesterday, no codes.  ABS/wheel speed sensors looked intact, plugs looked fine.  Not sure where to go with this.  If the lights come back I'm probably going to drop it off with the guy that handled the O2 sensor codes...

It's been doing that since the day I bought it too. Never found anything wrong and could never recreate it with the scanner plugged it.

It was so infrequent that I never was able to track it down. Maybe once every year or 2.  Since it always came back to normal the next day, I just ignored it after a couple of times saying that if it ever came back and didn't go away, I would dig in more.

Weird.  I do suspect an ABS/wheel speed sensor but unless the lights stay on I'm not sure it can be logged/detected.  This is the first time it's done it since we've owned it...

Mine usually happened after a jolt or shake of some sort. Like I said, extremely rare and like you it never stayed on long enough to log it.

I'm sure there is something a bit off with one of the sensors but I never felt like firing up the parts cannon for something that was so rare.

Lights popped on immediately when starting the car to drive home yesterday.  Stayed off for the drive to work this morning.  Called the guy who fixed the O2 codes that nobody could, he's no longer working on cars anymore.  Sigh.  He did say he's scan it for me though, as my scanner can't read the ABS system or monitor the wheel speed sensors.

Given how intermittent this is, I've got to think it's a wheel speed sensor vs the ABS module.  The off brand sensors are cheap, like $20, but a Nissan one is more like $250.  So I don't really want to just start replacing them without knowing which one is bad

Shop diagnosed it as an ABS module.  New one is $1350, parts shops are showing it at $1000.  I'd like to find a used one but am having a hard time finding one.  Part # is 47660 ZZ70A, if someone can help find one I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!  Shop sourced one off eBay.  Typically I'd do the work myself, but I don't have a scan tool that can cycle the ABS pump to bleed it and this way if there's something wrong with the used pump, they have to warranty it and their labor....

Good deal. Probably the best way to do it especially with the bleeding.
