Hello everyone. Wasn't sure if WTB was allowed on here until I saw the tag available for it, but if it's not just delete this thread. Sometime in the winter (probably January/February) I'll need to pick up another car. My wife and I are going to have different schedules for the entire 2020 and she will need to be driving around. She normally uses public transportation but she still wants a car around, so I'm looking for a cheap fuel efficient car under 2500$. I'd rather look here than Craigslist so here we are. Looking for your typical kinds of cars (Prius, Corolla, Civic, Echo, Yaris, Fit). I know I'm not going to get some showroom ready car, etc. so don't be afraid to post/PM me.
Located in North Jersey, but willing to travel depending on how cool the car is.

The beater will be mine so auto/stick is ok.
I've got a 2000 Mazda Protege LX 1.6 automatic for $1800. Been my DD for a few years now but I'm almost done with my Volvo C30 so it will become the new DD. Located in North Carolina, so zero rust. Think it's around 175k miles. Timing belt, water pump, etc done around 140k miles. Only "issue" that it has is the AC does not work.

That sounds like a pretty cool car but that's a long way from here. Depending on where you are, 7-10 hours.
I have a Honda CRX posted in the for sale section.

That car would be so cool but unfortunately where I live it would be a thief magnet. :(
I've got a 97 CRV in VA that I'd like to sell to put money down on a newer car for my commute (I've been plagued with bad luck for six cars now and am just ready for amenities).
it needs front UCAs, RTAB, a windshield, driver seatbelt, door lock actuator, and a tune up and it would be very good but I've been driving it daily for months now. This is my second CRV and they've both been dead reliable, and 30mpg is pretty easy to attain.
4wd Automatic, very slight front fender rust spot from a dent, little dent in a couple doors but pretty clean underneath since it's from the south. 252k, new timing belt, tires, wipers, other maintenance.
if you'd like to put in the work I'll sell it GRM price $1000, or I can fix all the stuff finally at the shop and sell it for ~$1800?
if not I'll drive it til January and trade it in.
I have a 2000 Celica GTS I'd probably part with for $2300 for GRM folks. 6 speed. Lots of recent maintenance and new parts (new calipers, pads, front rotors, coils and plugs, just did coilovers and a basic intake) 174k ish miles. Some fender rust/bubbles, paint is eh. I'm right over the ny border in rockland county. I could post more pics and and more in depth history if you're interested.
Take a look at the zx2, checks all the boxes and also is pretty fast and fun for what it is
