OH SNAP!

I bet he had to replace the driver's seat after that ride. Poo stains and all.

Warranty coverage?

My guess is voided warranty (even if the radio stops working)

article said: One individual recently learned firsthand what happens when you remove the factory's 112-mph speed limiter on the Ford Mustang V6 and proceed to accelerate to 135 mph. The vehicle lost its driveshaft, which turned itself into a spinning hunk of metal that tore into the floorpan, bashed through its interior bits and generally caused mechanical mayhem.

Nope. Darwin here removed the Ford factory speed limiter and then admitted it on his idiotic YouTube video. Also, he was very clearly on a public road and filming with one hand.

I have not been near a new V6 Mustang but I am impressed in the video how much the car still pulls beyond the 112 limit. The speedo still climbed fast beyond 120 mph and I bet 145 would have been possible if the road were long enough.

Did the video get edited? I think it must have, or whoever wrote the article would have to have had other information for it to make any sense.

It appears that it did get edited, at least from the description of this video.

Maybe driving 135mph with one hand while trying to video with the other is a bad idea?

It sucks that they have these speed limiters these days and can deny warranty coverage based on that. There is no reason it should have failed at that speed IMHO. 113? Why, crappy tires? The car does have 300hp of course its going to accelerate rapidly even at triple digit speeds, its all about aero and HP at that point.

Meh, clearly it was an automatic. When you order a Mustang with an auto, shouldn't you expect the car to hate you and seek revenge?

Seriously. Imagine what went through his head when that happened (blew engine, blew tranny, driveshaft might kill me, etc...). Seriously stupid to film at those speeds, though. Not everything in life exists for the purpose of posting it to youtube.

I heard about this on another board a few days ago. Vid was taken down, but I see it's back up.

It is a sad commentary about Ford's overengineering of parts (i.e. the lack thereof).

Do you think?

Sucks the guy gernaded the drive shaft and possibly engine and tranny like that, but sh** happens when you push past a threshold of common sense, removing the speed limiter on a V6 Mustang and recording a high speed run while the car was making death moans. Yeah those were moans of the car about to die not enjoying what he/she was doing...

In reply to Jason_HBC:

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. You can obviously hear the sounds change just a couple of seconds before the boom...

Result of a ~90MPH driveshaft failure in the Jensenator:

No, I wasn't driving, the PO was. That hole is why I got the rolling shell for free.

I would be very angry if i found out my 300hp mustang could only do 112 mph safely. What the hell are those Ford drive-shafts made of anyway?

Do you really think the typical V6/Auto Mustang owner is going to want to do 135?

I had a U joint go once.. thankfully I was accelerating from a stop, so I was not going fast.. it was also the rear u joint back by the differential.. so other than taking a chunk out of the yoke, all it did was wind up on the ground

Just shows Ford is still cutting corners every way they can. Remember the debacle about the original Mustang and an underhood brace?
