What are you starting with? vehicle? rim/tire size?

I like 205/50's better than 195's, but I don't know how they'd work on a 6" rim. My experiences are on 15x7s.

I've put 205/60/13s on 13x5.5 RX7 rims. 205s will be fine on 6" rims

205/50/15's will work fine on a 6" rim. I run 205/50/16's on a 6"rim

195/45/15 Toyo T1r is about as low profile as you can get before you hit 165/45/15

Yeah, for a good stiff response on almost any wheel, definitely go with the 195 tires. 195/50 is best for a 6" wheel.

OE size is 205/75r15

I would used NO LESS than a 225/50r15, it will be a little tight on the OE wheel but trust me you don't want to leave that much wheel well.

I have dreams of a Tracker 4door hardtop with an AWD turbo something or other...

^ I agree there. Not only would a really small tire look . . . umm. . . stupid? But it would limit your top speed to about 60mph with your gearing.

With those big wheelwells, I agree - go bigger. I like a 225/45/15.
