If you are going to oil it, do it correctly using a proper rustproofing oil that will actually dry to a semisolid waxy substance after creeping in everywhere.

I've oil sprayed various vehicles of mine for years. It takes a lot to ignite oil. It's never been an issue with anything I've sprayed.
