American Sports Cavalcade at it's finest, complete with period TNN commercials.

Thanks for posting that! I can't wait to watch the whole thing.
I was probably there that day. 1986 was the first year that I started hanging out at Lime Rock.
That was a good race. I miss the racing coverage TNN had back in the old days.
Paul Newman was 61 years old at the time, and I remember as a young man marveling at how he could drive at such an advanced age. Now, I'm seven years older than he was at the time.
My god. Scott Pruett looks like a kid, an ad featuring Parnelli Jones (RIP), and the race hasn't even started yet.
Thanks for posting; I'm enjoying it already.
Before they put the chicane in.
I am told, by someone who has raced there, those last corners could be pretty sketchy without the chicane.

I loved watching them. My dad used Brock Yates to teach me to read, which probably explains a bit.
I just watched the whole thing... that was a great race!
And on a crazy side note, about 10 years ago, a friend and I (he used to race Showroom Stock back in the 80s) went to look at a pair of mid-30s Ford trucks that I saw on Craigslist. When we got to the guy's house, we saw a bunch of race prepped Corvettes on the property. I didn't buy the trucks.
As we were driving away, my friend asked me who the seller was. I had his name, but didn't know who he was at the time. It was Peter Andrighetti, who finished ninth in that race.
Everything feels more simpler. The helmets look thinner/lighter. Chris Kniefel looks to have no protection being so tall.

The window net is what really stood out to me. It looks like it was made out of dental floss.
In 1991, I ran in a 1/24th scale Grp. 10 national event, and painted this one up to try and win the concourse judging. Had an interior with the driver suit and helmet painted up to match Tommy Kendall's too.
Everyone else had a wedge shaped Firebird body. Basically a doorstop with a tall spoiler. It came down to me and a guy that had used Days of Thunder stickers on a white car. The judge told me he almost didn't give it to me because I had tan rear tires, and the other car had black tires... I finished third place in the race

Parnelli's 1980s-style haircut was a hoot.
