I know that the d16a1 engine and tranny out of a 1g integra can be bolted into the 1g crx. I also know that the integra trans has different mount locations that the other d-series trannys. What I don't know is if the mount location for the a1 is different than the other d-series engines. Question is, can I mount a vtec sohc d-series to the integra trans and drop it into the 1g crx?

Come on guys. Someone knows the answer to this.

I don't think it does, but since I'm highly uncertain, I didn't want to reply to this. They may have the answer in the FAQs over at redpepperracing, or buried in the forums somewhere.

Redpepper seems to be down at the moment.

I have a coworker that owns a 1991 CRX Si. I may see about snooping around under the hood of his car to see if I can spot any differences.

Duh, your comment just made me think about it a bit more - the B16 mount kits differ between 1g and 2g CRXs. Ergo, its likely the engines don't just swap over fine. Unless the SOHC D series blocks have some extra bolt holes for different mounting locations.

as far as i know, the 1g is completely different. a standard d-series wont bolt up to the integra trans or the stocker. i was actually planning an a1 swap into my 2g, but due to the mount issues, etc, im not oing to. wanna buy an entire a1 integra 5 speed car that runs, drives, and has title?

Just bought one today for $200. Not quite running, but close.

I have an automotive supplier I visit on a rare basis in your town.

Do you have a tape measure and a junkyard nearby? Do you already have the SOHC VTEC motor you're talking about? Which motor are you talking about?

I'd tend to guess someone has done the swap before, but no, it's not at all "common" or a "bolt-in" deal. If it was, I think you'd see tons of D16Z6 powered 1g integras and CRXs running around.

Yeah. Roaming the Pullapart might be good. I did see a couple write ups over on redpepper. I don't have a sohc engine at the moment. I do have an A1. But, I was checking to see what my options are since the A1's are kind of an oddball.

Well put. Being that they're the oddball of the bunch, I tend to think they're not going to share much in common with the later d-series motors. It's starting to suck having "outdated" technology. I called the local Japanese importer when I broke a timing belt in the civic. Thought it would be better to invest $300-$400 in a 40k mile motor than $200 - $300 in head work. The dude (in his thick Japanese accent) says "Dee feefteen-a-freeee? Eee du boo you fo-uh? Nooo, I don't get any-teeng dat old!"

Good news is, the 'real' ZC's still seem to be pretty hot. So that's a good (if a little pricey) 'plan b.'

I've had later D series next to the D16A1 and the mounts you need to "bolt in" to the 1g CRX chassis aren't there. For bolt ins, you need to stick to the EW4 stock SOHC or the D16A1/browntop ZC. If you want to make new mounts, your options open up. I can't remember if the later SOHC VTEC D's will bolt to the A1 transmission, though, and I'm several hours away from where I have those parts to check.

We are in the process of doing a similar swap. Found a built d16z6 and caged the yellow Boston Hong. The driver's side mount will be close, but the passenger side will have to be fabbed. Same goes with the trans, but with an array of factory parts made to work together. We want a 10 second 1rst gen.

later, matt
