The fun times begin at a 250 single hit...... So, can it?

The power it would create shouldn't be a problem.

The way it's delivered might be. It's a massively overbuilt engine, but it's no 2jz or 1FZ if we're comparing to other Toyota motors.

So...... In theory, it can handle 500CkHP, but given the violent nature of nitrous might be a stretch. Right? So, you are saying I should hang a 88mm turbo out front instead. Hmmmmmmm... Now to find some Ford CNG injectors cheap.

Well i posted a 591whp dyno earlier... I'm guessing that's 650bhp+.

But yes, big turbo is always a good idea.

Please teach me what you are going to do with the CNG injectors?

There are planty of COMMENTS that the stock bottom end will hold 600HP, but that has not been documented as a fact. Looking at the bottom end, I would think it could handle a fair shot of nitrous... Curmudgeon, This engine was not developed from the CART engine! I know the Toyota CART engine was good (personal experience), but the Lexus engine was designed for production cars. There is a V12 variant out there (1GZ - 5.0L). The 3UZ (4.3L V8) was the bassis for the Toyota/Lexus Daytona Prototype engine. That was built to make nearly 600HP. They did later open that engine up to nearly 5.0L. Fun fact that could probably cross to the OHV vs OHC thread is that the Toyota CART engine, in its final form could rev to 18000 on steel valve springs and was raced with the rev limiter at 17k for a few events. Man I loved that engine...!

TRD's boss sez it was BASED on the CART/IRL design.

Its resemblance to a race engine platform (6 bolt cross mains and over square configuration) was confirmed in 2007 by David Currier (in an interview with v-eight.com), vice president of TRD USA, stating that the 1UZ platform was based on CART/IRL engine design. It was planned to be used on GT500 vehicles, however its subsequent use in the Daytona Prototype use was not planned.

No matter; it's still a helluva stout design which can make big numbers and still be reliable.

In reply to m4ff3w:

Hate to give away all the secrets, but they are large, like 160lb/hr on gas, high-impedence injectors that can be found for cheap in the JY.

Curmudgeon,
Don't believe anything you read or hear and only half of what you see...
My commentary included.
The architecture of the 1UZ was similar to the CART engine, but not close enough to honestly be called 'based on'. Then again there are plenty of other engines with similar architecture. The CART engines being used when the 1UZ was designed were not very good in terms of reliability and the actuation of the valves fromthe cams changed quite a bit. Several times they grenaded before they ever got on the track after being installed. The versions after the 1UZ was already in production became much better. It was a sad day to watch all of them get destroyed at the end of Toyotas CART involvement.
All that said I have a 1UZ in a project that used to be a Spitfire. Currently normally aspirated but planning to add two small turbos at some point in the future.
