mom has a low mile grandpa fresh 2000 impala that she picked up at the beginning of summer. low as in sub 70k miles. the other day she started getting intermittent security light flashing, followed the next day by security light flash with the car shutting down and almost getting her killed on an entrance ramp. it started back up. it has shut down a couple times since with same symptoms. security light, car shuts down, restarts and keeps going.

not looking for a "take it to the dealer for a new BCM and passlock module and reprogramming for a grand" route. looking for a total GRM workaround or bypass. it's parked right now and she is back in her astro, but that thing has 200k and i'd prefer her in anything but a 2wd astro on all seasons for another winter.

so quick quote from their site "blah blah blah output signal blah blah"

can one use a GM PCM editor such as HPTuners to disable passlock and do the same thing inside the PCM, or is the "correct output signal" needed still?

I believe if you can tune the pcm, it's just a simple checkbox to turn the security on and off....

I have NEVER heard of the PassLock system shutting the car off. It only looks at the key when cranking and prevents the engine from getting fuel.

Usually the problem is a broken wire at the ignition lock cylinder. It's a PITA to get to when the lock cylinder is in the dash, but on the other hand, this is on purpose.

Again, it WON'T prevent the car from running once it is running! I suspect that you have another fault. The fact that the car restarts tells me that it isn't an anti theft problem. I'm thinking that it's something dumb like a failing ignition switch, or the typical 5 pounds of crap on the key causing problems. Drive the car with only the ignition key in the switch and see if it goes away.

I'm not kidding. You have no idea how many cars I see with ignition switch or lock cylinder problems that coincide with a E36 M3load of stuff hanging off of the key. I don't put my car keys on my keyring anymore, they stay separate.

my old s10 would occasionally turn the security light on when using the spare key. Never caused it too shut off.

this is the kind of stuff i'm looking for. i had a hard time finding anything about passlock issues shutting down an already running and driving vehicle. she only has the car key and house key on her ring, no extra crap.

dash mounted switch, of course. column mounted gm switches are simple to deal with, so this wouldn't be that kind.
