So I can do that but I want to clarify what is happening in the video. I did the brake and clutch at the same time. Ended up being at 2,500 RPM. And the revs did not increase at all... The noise and sensation is what I've been describing or thinking is the clutch slipping.

If you film this, could you start at about 2k rpms so you can get the 2.5k rpm stutter in there?

Did you scan it to see what the check engine light came on for.  I have seen a number of n52's with Bosch coils shutter under high load, they may or may not set a check engine light during this.  If you got a misfire fault to set you can try moving the coil & seeing if you can get it to happen again.

Since we are kinda in the investigation period still I'm wondering if you can smell the burnt clutch while driving it? If it slips, unless it's covered in fluid it's going to make a stink like nothing else. Are you smelling anything? The video doesn't seem to present like a slipping clutch to me considering you seem to be able to accelerate from a stop fine. It really sounds like an engine issue.

The check engine light went out before I got to scan it. Maybe its stored? But I'm pretty sure you both are right, this was a misfire of some sort the whole time. I just dismissed it because I never got a check engine light.

Video should be a 3rd gear pull. What I've been calling slipping occurs from 2-3,000 rpm. I'm almost certain it was never the clutch at this point.

Did I miss something? Didn't see any rpm jump indicative of clutch slip. Is it just for a moment when you tip into the throttle?

Should have stored codes. Get a foxwell scan tool.

Yeah there's no hint of a clutch problem, it's some kind of misfire.

Yeah... it never did. If you watch the revs they bounce from 2-3,000 and you can hear it. I've never felt a misfire before and only have limited experience with a slipping clutch. My misguided diagnosis was the clutch because I didn't have a check engine light. A little research tells me its not uncommon for these cars to misfire without a warning light...

Yeah, Caperix was right from the start. Looks like I should do my leaking valve cover gasket, plugs, and see if its those head bolts that were in my oil pan. If the plugs don't do it, then its time for coils.

If it still has the black Bosch coils plan on swapping them out.  Delphis are the official replacement but the n54 cars switched to an eldor brand that feels more solid.

As an update, did the valve cover gasket, coils, and plugs last weekend. Plugs were real bad and there was one Delphi coil mixed in with the Bosch coils. Valve cover gasket job on an E82 isn't that bad, though getting the cover out and back in is particularly frustrating. Finished it up and I can pull through the rev range without any hesitations. Thanks to everyone for working around my cluelessness and getting me to the solution.

In my usual fashion, I managed to pull on the windshield cowl the wrong way trying to get the valve cover back in and my windshield developed a crack after a day or two... It never ends with me.

Still happy to have that out of the way and the car performing as it should and really appreciate the help.
