Probably won't until Wednesday morning.
Supposedly regular Challenge judge Stephen Cole Smith is going to be running as well. Should be a fun field.

i started a new job venture a couple weeks ago so the chances of me going are slim. I may just have to take a half day friday drive up, hang out all day saturday and cruise home in the wee hours of the morning.
I may just take the money I have saved for this and put it towards my Le Mans trip I'm planning. Which if I don't go will suck because I put off the challenge this year for Petit, but an unfortunate series of events put me in a doodoo situation of being without a job for two months and using up some of my savings to pay my bills, but hey that's life!
If I do make it, anyone that is setting up a camp with a grill and so on, would you mind saving some room for one more tent and I'll throw some cash down for some grub?
Wish I was going again this year, went last year for the first time and really enjoyed it. The rest of you on the fence might want to seriously consider going this year as it may be the last Petit LeMans as we know it:

Eh, sounds like "yellow journalism" to me. Yeah, the ALMS & the ACO are talking different rules structures, but not really anything more difficult than the Group C vs. IMSA GTP days.
Sounds like the author is simply upset about the media coverage of the thing, and has forgotten two important things about sportscar racing in the US.
1.) Most sportscar racing fans here will actually attend races, regardless of how thin the field is, simply because the real prototypes are so stinking cool. There's a reason Grand Am doesn't have the attendance ALMS does, even though the races are closer. As the decline of Indycar racing should show..when you take the fast cars out, and replace them with slow cars..a lot of people stop buying tickets.
Road Atlanta has had record attendance numbers for the last few years, even though there were honestly only two teams that could take the overall win. Regardless of TV ratings, etc..the attendance at the track is high enough to make the event profitable for the track, if not for Dr. Don's entire sanctioning body.
2.) The "housing bubble" has burst. Yes, before the Great Recession, we were worried about Rd.A going the way of Riverside...but since nobody's building houses anymore, it's no longer a problem.
The only thing I could see as a threat to the continued existence of Petit is if the ACO stopped awarding an automatic entry into the 24 for the class winners.
well i got free tickets to the Florida Alabama football game next weekend....tough decision. Die hard football fan is what I am as well as sports car fanatic. Arghhhhh

Well if you do make the race we will have plenty of room for your tent and plenty of grub we will be smoking a turkey, making burritos, and cooking a myriad of other yummy drunken meals. We will be at turn three close to the bathrooms in the Black VW mini van with grm stickers.

This has me rethinking my decision not to go this year. It would be tough going at the last minute, but....
The wifey and I will be arriving Friday morning to set up camp, probably around Turn 3. Anybody who wants to share a brew look for the black integra with the bright green tent. You'll probably see two nerds in funny hats sitting around talking smack.

When does your race run? Hopefully it didn't yesterday.

If it's possible, I'd recommend going tonight. This is important if you're planning to camp for the weekend.
The forecast calls for some fantastic weather (a little on the cool side); expect a big crowd.

Crap. I guess we're going to have to get there ASAP.

Ah, ok - thanks. Looks like I'll catch it Friday morning.
Not going to make it until Saturday morning but I have secured a nice place to stay 10mins from the track and same buddy rented a golf cart for the weekend so Bonus not as much walking for my festively plump butt.
Seen a girl smash on the bridge up the big hill towards vendors row last night , scooter wars looked like big scrape across melon . Hope she is OK .
Not happy with Road Atlanta. I've been here since Wednesday and it has been decided that I need to move tonight even thought there were no signs indicating camping wasn't allowed. But I can stay until tomorrow since "they" called Dr. Don and asked if it was ok for me to stay. My canopy is fine, but my tent isn't ... I'm pretty sure I paid for tickets to this event.
If anyone could get a Hero card from either/both of the Gulf Astons my son Ian would be very grateful.

This blows. They need to have better customer service.
From the ABC coverage that place looked packed to the gills.
Aside from crappy customer service, what a finish in GT. I had the espn3 feed on the whole race and watched it off and on. I went into the kitchen and noticed that there were only like 6 laps left so I sat down to watch. On the last restart the camera was in the 45 Lizard car, my 8 year old sons favorite team, so I yelled for him to come in and watch. He and my wife came up just before the 45 passed the BMW and we were all yelling , it was awesome.
I'm glad I got to see those of you who I got to see; I was chained to the booth for 95% of the event and didn't get to be social with many of you.
Sorry I didn't get to visit your camping spaces, despite many very nice invitations. Although I did get to enjoy a very nice dinner with Mazda at the Playboy MX-5 award banquet. Facebook has proof.
You'll need to log in to post.
