And I looked, doesn't appear anyone posted this yet.
That being said, I am wondering about how a 19rd old kid was in possession of a 2011 mustang capable of 208mph......
Something doesn't addd up and they didn't mention if he stole it. Maybe it was "Farris Bueller's day after a cars and coffee"?
I'm sure that he wasn't going that fast.
They won't get anything over 175 to stick
I wonder how they clocked it. From an airplane with a stop watch? That's not uncommon but is notoriously unreliable.
This doesn't quite add up.
I mean, a 2011 GT will go 175+ with an intake, exhaust, and tune to get rid of the limiter, but 208 seems a little far fetched.

Maybe if boost and a really tall gear was involved?
That's why I'm thinking it was either stolen or "borrowed" from a family member.
What "special models" were capable of even close that?
I thought various Shelby or other factory hot rod versions were 200mph capable - they just mention "2011 Mustang" but they also won't be car geeks who note that garden variety ponies don't go that fast.
Edit: Not until 2 model years later, apparently...
C&D supposedly did 188 in a stock 2013 Shelby GT500.
article
That's 10% below the stated speed -- obviously that's a lot more than 10% more power needed to go that far, but it's closer than I would have imagined!
"Heavily modified" "turned of headlights and taillights"
Still can't outrun a Motorola.

Hmmm, Fox News is usually fairly conservative.
Also confusing: a Canadian mounty "intercepted" a car traveling at that speed? Spike strip at 175 would've been interesting. A Canadian mounty in Oklahoma? What is going on here???

What happens when all but syndicated journalists make the equivalent of $13/hr and have to write about things of which they know nothing.

Canadian County is the County just west of Oklahoma City proper.

Sounds like a game of NFS: Undercover...I assume the cops also have SUVs that are faster than any supercar, and all the lampposts and gates are made of foam and stuck down with double-sided tape
I can't think of any roads or sections of highway in Oklahoma that are long enough to reach 208mph, OR smooth enough for a any 200+ capable car to even stick to the road surface at that speed. At least not in the area where the story says it happened. Maybe a few spots on the Cimarron Turnpike, but not west of Oklahoma City. My gut says it's a typo and should have read 108 mph. Which just happens to be the standard speed limiter setting on most of Ford's non-performance models...
After all of that he was going to wait until the light turned green?...What, was there was a red light camera?? LOL
Reminds me of the campy Need for Speed movie.
I dont believe Oklahoma has roads that are smooth enough for that kinda speed. I live here and going triple digits is scary.
Suppose we take this at it's face value and a 19 year old kid actually has a Mustang capable of 208 MPH. How much do you have to spend to pull that kind of speed in a late model Mustang, $50,000?
What kind of affluenza douche nozzle parents provide a CHILD with enough cash to behave like this?

Er, not to be overly critical but you just made up a reason for how something that looks completely unbelievable "might" be true, and then outraged yourself about it. This is how the election became what it was.
It seems a lot easier to assume sloppy reporting in this case.
I think that if the kid could do 208 on the street while being chased and not hit anything or get killed... He's got talent.
