This will definitely be an interesting addition to the track world and I will be interested to see how it’s like. The 310 hp and the 348 pound feet or torque at 1500 to 4000 range will be different for a gas 4 cylinder and will have to see if it’s a game changer for full size trucks. As mentioned in the article it’s the replacement for the 4.3 v6.
My only significant concern is they are still having longevity issues with displacement on demand V8s, and they want to use an even more “advanced” version of it on a 4 cylinder? I think I’d pass for at least the first few years until there’s a significant population of them that have hit the 100K-200K mile range without problems.
The Ridgeline guys can hassle the Chevrolet guys then. A real truck doesn’t have a four banger.

biting..... tongue...... so....... hard......
This could be interesting! Turbo 4 should be plenty for the majority of the homeowner market. I never found the 4.3 to be lacking for anything short of gravel and towing.

Put that motor in the Colorado with the 6spd manual and I'll buy one.

Put that motor in a Vega with a TH350 and a good converter and go scare people.

Sorry Bob - it was all done in sarcasm and my attempt at weak humor. I don’t care either way.

Seems like there will be plenty of room to work on it. It's an interesting move and it sounds like one hell of an engine. Just curious whether it works as well as planned. Also, curious what exact mileage will be, because I took an '18 Silverado 5.3L on a banzai run to Albany a week ago, and doing 80mph down 5S, I knocked down 25mpg.

I went to read the article and I saw this;
I see The Predator has continued to serve as a styling reference for the industry. Good work GM you used to make things that look nice.

The character line that runs downhill is also weird. Makes the front look taller than the rear of the truck.

I know. I have been working on not espousing my slanted view on every topic.

GM does look a little foolish with this. After going "Our trucks are V8-powered and steel, like God intended, not aluminum and V6-powered like those silly Fords", they then proceed to unveil aluminum and composite trucks with turbo-4s. Meanwhile, Dodge is likely trying to figure out if they can put a Hellcat motor in a Ram

It's astonishing how much power newer cars have sometimes. Sure it's a 4cyl but that's more power than most the trucks from the 90s and older had hailing them around.
Hell the 305 in my Caprice has like....155hp?

In reply to Antihero :
Kinda like the parts kid at my work who was making a crack about the new turbo-4 Camaros. My reply was "You do realize that that 'wimpy' Camaro makes more power than the LT-1 in your Trans Am?" He shut up
In reply to NickD :
Exactly. I'm all for progress too. If a 4 cyl can produce twice what the 351 in my work van does while delivering twice the mpg.....sign me the berkeley up 11 mpg sucks.
Still funny though that my ranger has the "big" v6 in it and rereading old article about how powerful it is....... 160hp 225ftlbs.

Gm had the v6 in trucks for years. The v8 comments were do to ford going about how the 3.5 ecobost was superior to the v8.

And a funny thing is ford doesn’t say much about the ecobost anymore they just go on about the coyote lol

I think it would look way better if the hood height matched up with the top body colored horizontal trim on the grille. As it is it is hideous.

I own a Ridgeline and, although I would never admit this to any of my friends/family, I have easily watched an hour of Youtube videos of various old dudes driving big rigs with Detroit Diesels. There are no gay jokes in anything I just wrote.
