Ok just to clarify the Mercury Tracer was a 323.
I was a 3 door as well as 5 door.
I owned a 3 door. Had Mazda written all over that car except on the hood, lift gate, and steering wheel.
Here is a pic of a Mercury 323 er, I mean Tracer

Yes the fun non-Escort version.
Seriously fun little car. 88 hp and handling that was a blast.
I hope the new Fiesta/Mazda2 are as much fun to drive.
I know where an '88 323 is for sale in San Jose, CA... already has a roll bar. Under $1k. I can post a vid and help purchase if anyone is interested.
Shipping to east coast will be $1k, though. I'd drive it east for folks, but I'm out of vacation time because of the Challenge. :D

Hey Doll,
Is the 88 323 the same bodt style as the one I was interested in,or was it the model with the more rounded rear hatch area? I think it is the same, but I thought I would ask to make sure.
Chris
It's the same as the '86, but not as cherry. It's the same as the two '88 323 GTXes in my "Garage" area, which is why I was looking at it. I loooove that style. It's white with a blue interior, if I recall correctly. I didn't inspect it closely before I went to the Challenge - was trying to get the GTX smogged and legal in CA. :D
PM me; he still had it as of Sunday. I'll run by at lunch tomorrow and take some pix for you.
