Whats out there? 4x4, 2 solid axles, newer than 1980, efi, less than 185in in length, not a jeep.

Or find one with a 1.6 swap.
Like this.
No, you can't have mine.
FJ62 Land Cruiser is it at 184". FJ80 is longer yet at 189" or so.
Land Rover Defender but $$$.
Ford Bronco fits the needs basically at 180.4", but the years that are EFI have a TTB front axle. Its relatively easy to do a solid front axle swap though.
Samurai as stated above.
The Jeep is the off road world's Miata.
Short bed reg cab 1500 Dodge Rams are close at 190", you could bob the bed or even just replace bumpers with shorter stuff to get under 185".
Edit: and it looks like only 1985 Toyota 4Runners and pickups were available with EFI AND solid front axle. If optioned correctly with the 22RE 4cyl.
Suzuki Samurai - 80-ish inch wheelbase, 135" long.
The Toyota FJ60(carbed), Fj62 and FJ80 are about 187" long. The '84-'85 Toyota Pickup and 4-Runner fit your bill. The '84 had optional EFI, but all '85 had injection. The regular cab short bed was 175" long.
What rolls down stairs, alone or in pairs and even goes off road....
Front axle swaps are a kit away.

And, if you want to do some axle swapping, that opens up the entire Tracker/Sidekick lineup. I might be willing to part with a front axle too.

thats true, but you don't get the cool song.
All jokes aside, Samurai is the answer here.

Rovers are cheap buy ins... but wait for the engine to pop (ask me how I know) But I have found mine worth the cash outlay
Deep pockets? Defender 90.
Mercedes G-Class is 186.5" long, but that counts the external spare and brush guard.
Ramcharger. Mine was a beast offroad with no lift and cut fenders for 35s. Way more capable than a $500 ex-plow truck had any right to be.
Not mine but you get the idea.
It may be worth noting that the Ramcharger was the truck I used to scout for customer trail rides when I was a Land Rover tech.
We took our ramcharger all throughout the woods of PA with very little issues other than my dad almost ripping the hitch off the thing. It was pretty crude but it was a very effective tool.

The Samurai is at the top of the list. I have seen a couple with the 1.6 and a few with the 1.9 VW TDI swaps.
In reply to Mike:
There's a 2-door g-class as well; seen a few of them around LA. Probably really expensive and hard to find, though.

Quoted for victory.
An Isuzu Trooper would fit the bill, too. Swap the front axle (it's an easy kit) and you're good to go. I think even the 3rd gen Troopers are short enough, meaning you can have a healthy V6 and a sweet 4-link out back stock.
