I am removing the stock wiring on a 1983 RX7 race car, and I will build a harness from scratch. As I was removing the harness, I removed a silver box, with a green plug on one end, and I am wondering what this is, and wether I need to worry about wiring this in or not when I do the minimalist race car harness? The box has these numbers on it:

N231 K8T41371 2831

Any help is appreciated

If it was under the passenger side false floor, it's the engine control computer. More like emissions control computer. Unless you're running in a class that requires the stock carb/cats/air pump, you don't need it.

If it was behind the driver's seat, it's the cruise control unit.

In reply to Knurled:

It was bolted to the driver side wall in front of the door just under the dash, but this car has been a race car for some time, and its possible that it could have been moved. I have come across a few wiring diagrams to wire this car for racing, and none of them showed this box wired in, so I wanted to make sure I could just follow those diagrams without issue.

83, so a carbeurated car? If that's the case the car will run great with just power to the ignition. Literally one wire. Well, you need a second wire to bump the starter if you don't want to push start it.
