Does anyone know if your normal 8v NA 2.5L 944 motor shares a header flange with any other motor? I would even considder one that is just the same spacing and drill new holes for the studs to the head.
Anyone? This is for parts scrounging. I am going to custom build a exhaust header and was hoping to find something to modify instead of starting from complete scratch.
Many Thanks
Dean
928 ought to be fairly close.
Otherwise you're on your own as that motor was only ever used in the 944 and 924S.
From what I've read, the 944's exhaust manifold wasn't that bad.

Multi piece, they crack, they are cast, Aftermarket units suffer from the Porsche markup problem.
Bursch makes headers but they rust faster than you can get them on the car. And at $300-350 for them just not worth it. Lets just say the build quality on the last Bursch exhaust I had was less than stellar and it was completely rusted away in 2 years.
If you are going to scratch build.. why not just make a template and have a flange machined up in something stronger than cast steel?
I was looking for a junkyard alternative. I was hoping to start with something like the header from on a escort (the 1.9's from the late 80's had mandrel bent things that actually look quite nice.) Or something similar. As soon as you start buying "new" even if it is scrap for flanges the cost goes up. I was thinking taking a stock header from something and cutting it up using the flanges as the starting point and then going from there. If I could end up re using some of the pipe it would help the budget.

A late 924S has the same engine as the 8V 944. But I don't know if that'll help you any...
Like fiat22turbo said, 928 might get you what you are after. The 2.5 in the 944 was essentially half the 5.0 of the 928, so the exhaust ports and studs might line up.

I have a friend who just put a header on a 2.7-liter 944. I don't know if the manifold will interchange with the 2.5 but if you'd like I can ask if he wants to sell the part he took off.

im pretty sure the 928 set wont work... ive had both 944 and 928s, they are very , very different cars.
the 944 manifold can take allot more abuse then most people think, and when they do crack, i think half the time there its due to be improperly installed after work is done (creating stress and load points ), but thats just my .02 cents.
if you want aftermarket 944 headers, itll be $pendy. but you might want to check rennlist or clarks garage allot of 944 spec racers there, they may have alternatives or even used headers at a decent price hanging on the garage wall someplace...
