So the headlights were flickering.. Battery light come on... I switch out Alternators as the Auto"Stoned" one had lifetime warranty... Driving home the next day the lights ect go extraordinarily bright... moments later it is dead on the side of the road with the battery totally fried nearly to the point of explosion.

Towed it home and the ASD fuse is blown.. popped immediately upon replacement. So i started unplugging things until that stopped... unplugging the PCM did the trick.

So... Of to the self service yard.. Found a PCM with the same P/N.. now it will run for three seconds and shuts off.. I am assuming the VIN coded theft system on the 'new' old PCM is causing problems..

Dealer wants 500 something bucks for a PCM plus whatever to program...

Rock Auto.. 220ish... But requires the VIN to be programmed...

Autostoned is 210 bucks... and they claim somehow it needs no further programming..

I am not sure how they are pulling that off? Does anyone around here have any experience with one of these?

Could the non flashable whatever it is chip be swapped b/t PCM boards and just roll with the junkyard PCM?

Did they have SKIM in '97? You'd need the sentry key module and key that goes with the replacement PCM.

this would require the steering column.. key set... And would the Sentry module really just plug and play?

You don't need the column, just the little RFID gizmo that goes around the lock cylinder. Depending on if the wiring is there, it would plug & play with the ECU and key that it is married to.

You'll need to log in to post.
