Yeah, I've found yet another (stupid?) car at my favorite dealership that looks halfway interesting....a 2001 Cabrio. It's a Mexican built 5 speed with just over 100K on it and they are currently asking $6K.
I know the Mexican built VWs are crappier than the German built ones and even the best VWs have "hit or miss" assembly/reliability issues....but for a little less than $6K, would this be a decent one or two summer "fun car"? And yeah, I know the Cabrio is basically a "chick car".
Not really answering your question here, but half the money will buy a really nice A1 Cabriolet. Most people agree that the '92 and earlier VWs are rock solid, without the issues that plagued the Mk3 cars and beyond.
Seems like a bit much. I see some 98-2000 on Craigslist for ~$3-5k and some more expensive ones being offered by dealers.
I'd run away, but that's after swapping out a blown up vr6 for a good vr6 in a 2001 Jetta. Never again will I work on a newer VW.
Good crap car but there are much better crap cars out there.

If you think electrical gremlins are fun creatures, that is the car for you.

Don't do it! My wife drives an 02 Cabrio and that car consumes money faster than an ex-wife.

Plus eleventy billion. I can think of much better ways to piss away $6k which do not involve nearly as much pain. And I will, right here, explode the myth that the German built VWs are of better quality because they are NOT. BTDT.

I've got the four cylinder version. Great summer car.
$6000 would buy a nice Miata. Just sayin'. NA or NB1, maybe an NB2, but you'll have to be lucky there.
