I've given up getting annoyed with terminology. I'm not sure weather its maturity or apathy.
You forgot engine/ motor.
I am perfectly willing to use the word "motor" when I mean "engine".
Everywhere except here.

Is engine/motor a thing? I mean, I know in Britspeak that "motor" can refer to a whole car, but why would anyone get their panties/knickers in a wad over the use of motor to mean engine and vice versa? What's the difference?

It's ok honey, it's only natural. It happens to everyone. This just means you're a woman now!

A motor is an electric thing with windings.
Watch out for incoming wadded up panties.

Well, an easy test of that is to ask if the phrase "Electric engine" makes sense. Nope. A motor is understood to be electric, while an engine is anything else.
"Steam motor" anyone?
From the OED.
Motor: A machine, especially one powered by electricity or internal combustion, that supplies motive power for a vehicle or for some other device with moving parts.
Engine: A machine with moving parts that converts power into motion.
Sorry panty wadders, effectively interchangeable, unless you want to claim an electric motor has no moving parts, get over it.

OK, OK If we can get past panty wadding and bear poking, let's hear some more funny stories about stuff found in cars. I seem to recall a long time ago the original GRM white 91 Miata project car, they found a polaroid of a an engorged gentleman’s sausage in Jezza speak.

of course there's other usages of motor to consider … Motor Trend, Grassroots Motorsports …. etc …
Motorboat. May or may not refer to an engine, motor, or even boat.
